BioWare unveiled Legacy of the Sith, the next expansion for its MMORPG Star Wars: The Old Republic.

Legacy of the Sith will continue to grow the already expansive story of Star Wars: The Old Republic. Players will be sent on a "military campaign to secure a vital planet for their faction as they uncover the ultimate plan of the renegade Sith, Darth Malgus." BioWare confirms that the update also focuses on improving the player experience with a new feature, Combat Styles, as well as a host of quality of life tweaks.

The Combat Styles feature should allow for better role-playing and a more personal character creation system. Players will be able to choose a "specific class story and [combine] it with ability sets from other related tech or force wielding classes." Beyond that, fans of the game can look forward to updates to the itemization and loadout experience as well as streamlined class designs.

"Legacy of the Sith will take players on an adventure to the far reaches of the galaxy, including the aquatic planet of Manaan, in pursuit of Darth Malgus. The major update will increase the maximum number of levels players can achieve by 5 to level 80," says BioWare. "The toughest challenges yet... will also be introduced with new collaborative missions including a Flashpoint set in a mountaintop tomb on the remote planet Elom, as well as an Operation in the remains of a deep space research station."

Legacy of the Sith will also kick off the 10th anniversary celebration of Star Wars: The Old Republic, which will run throughout 2022 and introduce "new content, events, updates and more."

Launched in 2011, Star Wars: The Old Republic has grown into a behemoth of an MMORPG. Despite inital complaints regarding its sparse content, the game has improved over several major expansions and updates. Set before the events of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, players design and play an original character, embarking upon quests throughout the galaxy. Choice plays a significant role in The Old Republic, as actions taken by the player often have a lasting effect on their world and the characters within it.

Developed by BioWare and published by Electronic Arts, Star Wars: The Old Republic - Legacy of the Sith launches for PC this holiday season.
