Though its second season has yet to premiere, The Mandalorian has a third season in the works at Disney+.
According to Variety, series creator and showrunner Jon Favreau has been hard at work writing the third season, while the show's artists draw up concept art. "We've just started pre-production and are looking into further adventures for The Mandalorian in Season 3,” a source close to the production said.
The pre-production for Season 3 began as early as April 20th, according to sources. A large lead time is needed for the production department to do the necessary work to get the show up and running.
Production on Season 2 wrapped this March, before the onset of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic. The second season is slated to premiere this October, with Rosario Dawson reportedly joining the cast as former Jedi Padawan Ahsoka Tano, Ming-Na Wen returning as lethal sharpshooter Fennec Shand and Michael Biehn (The Terminator) joining in an undisclosed role.
Set five years after the events of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, The Mandalorian follows Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal), a Mandalorian bounty hunter, as he comes into contact with a Force-sensitive child. The Mandalorian must protect the child while dealing with opposing bounty hunters and Imperial forces led by Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito).
Created by Jon Favreau, The Mandalorian stars Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano, Carl Weathers and Giancarlo Esposito. Season 1 is available now on Disney+, with Season 2 currently set for release this fall.
