WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Star Wars: The Mandalorian Season 2, Episode 6, "Chapter 14: The Tragedy," streaming now on Disney+.

After an impromptu team-up with Ahsoka Tano last episode, Din Djarin and Grogu left on a trip to Tython to reach out through the Force for anyone who will answer the call to train the young child. However, by the end of the duo's latest adventure, the Mandalorian finds his past catching up to him, and it costs him both the Razor Crest and Grogu.

At the start of the latest episode, "The Tragedy," The Mandalorian is still visibly grappling with the revelation of Grogu's real name and his past as one trained by the Jedi before the Old Republic gave way to the Galactic Empire. After a season where even the most routine voyage was fraught with obstacles and unplanned detours, the trip to Tython is a relatively smooth one, as Din and Grogu make it to the planet unimpeded.

The Seeing Stone on The Mandalorian

Once there, Din finds the ruins of the Jedi Temple, as detailed by Ahsoka Tano, and places Grogu atop the seeing stone to reach out to any surviving Jedi still connected to the Force. And as Grogu enters a deep state of meditation, protected by a powerful barrier made entirely by the Force as he communes with the cosmos, Din senses something happening at the Razor Crest and uses his helmet to pick up the heat signature of someone rummaging through his ship.

Leaving Grogu to investigate further, Boba Fett, still searching for his armor, confronts Din, having tracked the Mandalorian since he left Tatooine with it at the start of Season 2. As the two gunslingers face off against one another, Boba reveals that he is not alone: The mercenary Fennec Shand, whom the Mandalorian left for dead on Tatooine after she was shot by rival bounty hunter Toro Calican in Season 1, has accompanied Boba to Tython after he saved her life through cybernetic implants. Boba soon reveals Fennec is aiming at Grogu with a sniper rifle. Faced with little option, Din reluctantly agrees to relinquish the Mandalorian armor he recovered from Cobb Vanth rather than risk any harm coming to the child.

Before the exchange can be made, though, a detachment of Imperial Stormtroopers arrive on the scene, having followed Din to Tython via the tracking device secretly planted on the Razor Crest while he stopped on Nevarro for emergency repairs. Any differences Din and Boba have are quickly set aside as they team up against the mutual threat. Fennec and Boba attempt to buy Din time by holding off the Stormtroopers, while Din goes back to the child only to discover that the Force barrier is still intact and Grogu is still deep in meditation. As new Imperial transports arrive with reinforcements, Din joins the battle, aiding Boba and Fennec.

Even without his armor and its lethal arsenal, Boba proves deadly with his sniper rifle and gaffi stick. As the Stormtroopers begin to overwhelm Din and Fennec, Boba spots his armor in the Razor Crest, as the ship is still open. Donning his father's armor, Boba rejoins the battle and drives the Stormtroopers into a retreat before destroying their transports as they attempt to flee back into orbit. Before the trio can enjoy a breather, though, an Imperial cruiser commanded by Moff Gideon bombs Tython from low-orbit, completely obliterating the Razor Crest. And as the ensemble looks on, Gideon dispatches his Dark Troopers to recover the child from the planet's surface.

Moff Gideon in The Mandalorian: The Tragedy

At the most inconvenient moment, Grogu completes his meditation, dispelling the Force barrier and passing out from sheer exhaustion. No longer protected by the forcefield around the seeing stone, the Dark Troopers recover the child without any resistance. While Boba pursues the squad with his jetpack, he stops when he spots the Star Destroyer they are traveling to, realizing that the Empire has survived and how outnumbered the trio truly is. Returning to the surface, Boba proves his ownership of the armor to Din. Fennec and Boba then agree to help the gunslinger recover Grogu. Din then goes to the wreckage of the Razor Crest and he recovers the Beskar staff he received from Ahsoka last episode.

As Din travels back to Nevarro and reveals his next moves to Cara Dune, a freshly minted marshal for the New Republic, the Mandalorian reveals he intends to break out the Imperial sharpshooter-turned-mercenary Mayfeld. In Season 1, Din went on a heist with Mayfeld. However, their mission went south when Mayfeld double crossed Din. Still, the Mandalorian turned the tables on Mayfeld, who ended up in prison at the end of the episode. Din now hopes that Mayfeld, who is a former Stormtrooper, can lead him to Moff Gideon. Still, Dune is vehemently opposed to this plan, especially given her new position.

Meanwhile, Grogu puts up a good fight on Gideon's ship. However, the young child doesn't have the stamina to keep using the Force, and he ends up exhausted. In the end, Gideon knocks Grogu out and shackles him in preparation for harvesting more Midicholorians from the child.

Outnumbered and outgunned, Din Djarin is desperate for help in recovering Grogu from Moff Gideon and his Imperial contingent in the Outer Rim. While Boba Fett and Fennec Shand have both become surprise allies, Cara Dune is more reluctant to lend a hand again after taking on a position of responsibility. And with the clock ominously ticking for Grogu as Gideon moves to harvest as much as he can from the child, Din will have to get his motley crew working together quickly if he hopes to emerge triumphant from his rematch with Gideon.

Created by Jon Favreau, The Mandalorian stars Pedro Pascal, with guest stars Gina Carano, Carl Weathers, Horatio Sanz and Giancarlo Esposito. Directors for the new season include Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, Bryce Dallas Howard, Rick Famuyiwa, Carl Weathers, Peyton Reed and Robert Rodriguez.
