WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Star Wars: The Mandalorian Season 2, Episode 4, "Chapter 12: The Siege," streaming now on Disney+.

In the latest episode of The Mandalorian, "Chapter 12: The Siege," Din Djarin finds himself taking on the remnants of the Galactic Empire alongside Cara Dune and Greef Karga. And in this action-heavy episode, the gunslinger and his friends are quickly reminded that, while Emperor Palpatine may have fallen, the remaining Imperials are still a well-armed, formidable fighting force.

Despite the makeshift repairs on Trask following his icy ordeal against the New Republic and frost spiders, the Razor Crest is barely able to take flight, with The Child offering to help Din with repairs mid-flight. Realizing they can't make it to Corvus and track down Ahsoka Tano in their current condition, the Mandalorian makes a quick detour to Nevarro.

Under the protection of Greef and Cara, their town has quickly transformed from a seedy, backwater dive into a more peaceful homestead -- complete with a functional, fully attended school. While there are some problems posed by space pirates, Cara serves as the town's marshal and proves adept at dispatching potential problems. Din is also surprised to find Mythrol -- the first bounty he completed on the series --  now performing menial tasks and clerical duties for Greef to pay off his considerable debts.

As Greef has his technicians repair the Razor Crest, he and Cara ask their bounty hunter friend to help them drive out the last Imperial troops, who are holed up on a base on the south side of the planet. Doing so will effectively free the planet from the last vestiges of the Empire's control and make Nevarro a possible trading hub in the Outer Rim. Indebted to his friends for the repairs, the Mandalorian agrees to help, and The Child is brought to the town's school to be looked after.

Accompanied by Mythrol -- who is supposed to help them break through encryptions and locked doors -- the group takes a skiff out while the lava sea around the base is at low tide. As Mythrol struggles unlocking the base's main blast doors, the Mandalorian expedites the process by ambushing a patrol of Stormtroopers, catching them off-guard with an aerial attack facilitated by his jetpack.

Discovering the base isn't as scantly guarded as they initially believed, the quartet find themselves in a running gun battle as they fight through the facility, each hallway swarming with Stormtroopers. Soon, they stumble across a lab filled with clones and kill a group of scientists attempting to destroy their work in a last-ditch cover-up. The four then find a recording by Doctor Pershing, which reveals he had been using blood samples from The Child due to their high Midichlorian count. However, he was only able to harvest a small amount without killing the Force-sensitive infant. More shockingly, the recording reveals to Din and the others that Moff Gideon is alive and well, still obsessed with recovering The Child to continue the cloning experiments.

The ensemble then uses the rising lava sea to detonate the base's own stored weaponry, blowing it sky high and keeping the ordinance from falling into the hands of space pirates. To escape the base, Greef, Cara and Mythrol hijack an Imperial transport, while Din flies away using his jetpack. However, the last troops pursue Greef's group with speeder bikes and TIE Fighters. Greef holds the troopers off with the transport's turret, but just as the TIE Fighters are poised to strafe the group, Din returns with the fully repaired Razor Crest.

With The Child in tow, Din blasts the TIE Fighters from the sky, saving his friends, before setting course for Corvus after a brief goodbye. While Greefs contends with the New Republic patrols searching for the Razor Crest, it's revealed one of his technicians was secretly an Imperial spy. This spy planted a tracking device on the Razor Crest and confirmed for Moff Gideon that the Mandalorian still had possession of The Child. Eager for a chance at revenge and to recover The Child for their Midichlorians, Moff Gideon ominously strolls through his Star Destroyer, stopping at a line of formidable looking black suits.

What started out as a routine clean-up mission to take out the last remnants of Imperial troops and their weapons on a remote base became a full-fledged battle for the fate of Nevarro. In the episode, The Mandalorian, Cara Dune and Greef Carga reunited like no time had passed, quickly reminding audiences why they are among the most effective fighting teams in the galaxy. And deep in the heart of Moff Gideon's old Imperial base on the lava-filled planet, the seeds for Emperor Palpatine's rebirth and the reasoning behind the Empire's interest in The Child are revealed as Din Djarin learns his biggest pursuer from Season 1 is still alive and gunning for him,

While Din is finally back on track to find Ahsoka Tano on Corvus, things could go very poorly for the Mandalorian. Gideon is now aware of the Razor Crest's location and has his own secret weapons up his sleeve, meaning it may take more than the timely assistance of old friends if the Mandalorian and The Child are looking to get out of that inevitable rematch alive.

Created by Jon Favreau, The Mandalorian stars Pedro Pascal, with guest stars Gina Carano, Carl Weathers, Horatio Sanz and Giancarlo Esposito. Directors for the new season include Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, Bryce Dallas Howard, Rick Famuyiwa, Carl Weathers, Peyton Reed and Robert Rodriguez.
