The Mandalorian's Giancarlo Esposito has provided more insight into the character he plays in Disney+'s upcoming live-action Star Wars series.

"I play a guy who was a warden of the universe," he told Entertainment Tonight. "He was in power before the [Empire] collapsed. You don't know if he's good or bad ... but he certainly is a guy who has order in his life. He's an exciting guy because he has all of the equipment and spaceships at his ready."

Esposito plays Moff Gideon, a former Imperial governor trying to adapt to life in a post-Empire world after the destruction of the second Death Star. "In a way, you might call him an underworld character," the actor said in July. "You may also look at him as a savior, as someone who might bring back some order to the world after it’s all collapsed."

Created by Jon Favreau, The Mandalorian stars Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano, Carl Weathers, Giancarlo Esposito, Emily Swallow, Omid Abtahi, Werner Herzog and Nick Nolte. The series debuts Nov. 12 on Disney+, the same date as the streaming service's official launch.
