The Blurrgs are back! According to Star Wars: The Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau, the bipedal lizard-like creatures will reappear in the upcoming Disney+ series."For The Battle of Endor, we've got you too. We were inspired by that one. We got Blurrgs!" he told MTV. "The Blurrgs are these big, bipedal, huge, piranha-like pack animals that were stop motion in Caravan of Courage and I think Battle of Endor. They only appeared there and they were the most awkward looking creatures. We decided, 'That's gotta be in our show.' So we have an Ugnaught riding a Blurrg. You will see that on The Mandalorian."
The Blurrgs originally appeared in the made-for-TV movie Ewoks: The Battle for Endor, which aired in 1985. Following Disney's purchase of Lucasfilm, this TV movie was taken out of official continuity, reducing the creatures to Legends status.
That was not the last time Blurrgs were seen -- or heard from -- again. They were brought back into Star Wars canon in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, a series created by The Mandalorian executive producer Dave Filoni. The creatures appeared in Clone Wars episodes "Liberty on Ryloth" and "Slaves of the Republic," as well as the Star Wars Rebels episode "Hera's Heroes."
However, The Mandalorian will be their first live-action appearance in the new canon. Indeed, the scene Favreau mentioned -- where an Ughnaught rides a Blurgg -- was shown in the trailer. Check out the screencap of the scene below.
