"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" raised numerous questions, from the true identity of Supreme Leader Snoke to how Maz Kanata ended up with Anakin's lightsaber to why, exactly, Kylo Ren turned to the Dark Side. But none has fueled more speculation than Rey's parentage. While that mystery probably won't be answered in "Star Wars: The Last Jedi," writer/director Rian Johnson promises it will be "addressed," in some way.

"It's something that's absolutely going to be addressed," he told ABC's "Good Morning America," somewhat coyly.

Asked whether that means there will be clarification about the identity of Rey's parents, Johnson hesitated before replying, "It depends on ... I can't say! I was about to say something. You almost got me!" He then continued, "It will absolutely be addressed. [...] It's tough, because this is the other element of the secrecy of it all is -- the other part of it is, there are lots of surprises in this movie. There are lots of twists and turns, and I really want people to experience those when they see the movie for the first time. How we address that, and how you feel about it, and what happens with that, is one of them."
