To no one’s surprise, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” proved itself a box office juggernaut when it debuted in 2015. It reignited the general public’s interest in Star Wars and gave fans a new movie to freak out about after nearly a decade away. After finding success worldwide, “The Force Awakens” kicked off the next line/arc in the Star Wars franchise.

Despite being over nine months away, the sequel to “The Force Awakens,” “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” already has people filled with excited anticipation. Neither a trailer nor a teaser trailer has been released, but that hasn’t stopped Disney from showcasing footage via other avenues.

During Disney’s CinemaCon presentation, those lucky enough to attend the Star Wars panel were treated to a short sizzle reel, that indeed did showcase some brief snippets of new footage. While it might have been only a few seconds worth, one thing emerged clearer than ever: Rey is training with Luke Skywalker on the planet they met on at the end of “The Force Awakens.” The brief bit of footage showed Rey wielding Luke's -- now her own -- lightsaber. Judging by descriptions, it seems like more footage was privately screened earlier this month at a shareholders meeting.

It has yet to be confirmed when the "Last Jedi" trailer will drop. Disney will be hosting their annual Star Wars Celebration this year in Orlando, Florida, and fans are all but certain that the first trailer will get dropped there, sometime around mid-April.

The second film in the new “Star Wars” trilogy, “The Last Jedi” is written and directed by Rian Johnson (“Brick,” “Looper”). Opening Dec. 15, the film stars returning actors Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie and Andy Serkis.
