On his Instagram page, "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" director Rian Johnson posted a teaser image of the upcoming film's opening crawl, as seen from an editing room. The official title of the movie was only announced the day before.

Johnson stated in his post that "(It) felt so good to drop this into the cut this morning." The image provides little additional information, other than the franchise will return to the use of an opening crawl; an element that was eschewed in "Star Wars: Rogue One." Nothing else is shown beyond the movie's title, preceded by the expected "Episode VIII."

The title has prompted a flurry of fan speculation regarding the content and storyline of the film, nearly eleven months prior to its scheduled release. The "Last Jedi" referenced in the title is presumed by most to be Luke Skywalker, who is widely hoped to have a larger role in the new installment following only a brief cameo in "The Force Awakens."

"Star Wars: The Last Jedi" is slated for release in theaters on December 15.
