With the long-awaited start of the newest era of Star Wars, a new cast of characters has entered into the galaxy far, far away, which takes place in the era when the Jedi were at the peak of their powers. Accordingly, many of those new characters are Jedi, and one of them, Master Sskeer, just made a reference to a classic (and hated) part of Star Wars' history.

Following the christening of the new Starlight Beacon ship in Star Wars: The High Republic #1, Sskeer returned to his quarters after his padawan Keeve Trennis is made a Jedi Knight, only to scream "Nooooo!" at the top of his lungs in horror. The moment is a cliffhanger for readers and a reference to one of the first things Anakin Skywalker did as Darth Vader.

At the start of the issue, Sskeer took Keeve to the untamed world of Shuraden to complete her Jedi training. However, that process was interrupted by a swarm of Ridadi, giant cosmic insects that were drawn off course by the signal from a newly activated space station. Although Keeve deals with the situation admirably in a moment that earns her commission as a Jedi Knight, Sskeer, who the other Jedi say has not been the same since a recent battle, seems deeply unpleased. After previously watching the station's dedication ceremony, Sskeer lets out this howling "No" as soon as he gets back to his quarters.

After being transformed into Vader in Revenge of the Sith, Anakin's grief and rage over Padme's death and his transformation came out in full force, infamously erupting in a similar "Nooooo!" For many Star Wars fans, this was a step too far for Anakin was, for lack of a better term, whiny and too quick to trust Palpatine throughout the Prequel Trilogy.

So for Vader to just accept Palpatine's declaration of Padme's death so easily understandably wrinkled some brows. Instead of the titanic shadow who stormed and slaughtered his way through Leia's ship in A New Hope, Vader was a sad man who had lost his wife because he was foolish enough to believe a man who started a galaxy-wide conflict to seize power. Vader, who was once the embodiment of the Emperor's wrath, was replaced by little more than a spoiled child, the grown-up version of the pod-racing rascal of The Phantom Menace.

Darth Vader screams about Padme's death in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith

With time, impressions of this moment in Vader's life were forgiven, as shortly after Vader began demonstrating what an effective and deadly servant of the Empire he was. But one decision regarding Vader during perhaps the most critical moment of Return of the Jedi infuriated several fans.

During the scene where Palpatine is killing Luke with his Force lightning in the film's Blu-Ray edit, Vader looks at Palpatine and after the dark lord claims Luke will die, Vader said "No, noooo!" before lifting his former master up and hurling him into the reactor far below. This is in contrast with the original scene, where Vader watched on silently before grabbing Palpatine from behind and killing him in the same manner.

While this edit annoyed some fans for several reasons, it still underscores the emotion of the moment. In both of these examples, Vader experienced a pain that he could barely fathom, one that drove the often silent figure to let out a primal scream to the galaxy before him.

Although it's not clear what compelled Sskeer to scream, it's clear that he's going through a period of intense emotion. And considering the stern looks he gave to Keeve earlier in the issue, that scream could very well have something to do with his Padawan's transition into being a full Jedi Knight.
