Next year, Star Wars: The High Republic will leap even further back in a galaxy far, far away. The publishing initiative will feature the Jedi Knights at the height of their influence -- which writer Daniel José Older is looking forward to exploring.

Older, who will write Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures with Harvey Tolibao on art, spoke to CBR about shaping the distant past of the Star Wars universe.

"It’s also just been so much fun figuring out what the parts of the galaxy that we know so well would look like centuries earlier," he said.

Older also discussed how the Jedi will serve as an inspiration to others, even in the midst of chaos. "That’s something we haven’t gotten to see in Star Wars much -- even the New Republic starts showing its cracks pretty early. Now more than ever, it’s an important time to imagine ways that different worlds can work together amidst crisis, and that’s what we get to do here."

Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures focuses on a group of Padawans led by a younger Jedi Master Yoda. Investigating the destruction of the Starlight Citadel, they come face to face with the intergalactic raiders known as the Nihil. Older previously stated that The High Republic Adventures provides a "unique perspective" on the Star Wars universe.

Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures #1 is written by Daniel Jose Older and artwork by Harvey Tolibao. #1 goes on sale in February 2021 from IDW Publishing.
