Star Wars: The Clone Wars was brought back from cancellation for a final season on the Disney+ streaming service. With only one episode remaining, fans have seen the Siege of Mandalore, the capture of Maul by Ahsoka Tano, and the execution of Order 66, from another perspective.

Maul's return brought with it the long-awaited, epic duel with Ahsoka that led the former Sith Lord to make startling revelations about Chancellor Palpatine's plans, mere hours before they were to come to fruition. However, that wasn't Maul's only surprise, as he was freed by Ahsoka to distract clone troopers under order to wipe out the Jedi.

Fans are left only to wonder The Clone Wars will conclude on May 4, but if you ask us, there's only one way it should end: with a showdown between Maul and the newly anointed Darth Vader.

When Maul revealed himself on Mandalore and faced Ahsoka Tano in "The Phantom Apprentice," he was, surprisingly, not looking for a fight. In truth, he was looking for a partner. Although that seemed surprising at first, the real shock came when Maul revealed to her that Palpatine was planning to turn Anakin Skywalker to the Dark Side and unleash darkness upon the galaxy. And the worst part is, Maul nearly succeeded in convincing Ahsoka to join him and stop Palpatine. But she stopped listening to him when she heard mention of Anakin, convinced the Sith Lord was lying.

It's unfortunate to consider that Ahsoka had the chance to save Anakin and stop Palpatine before the end of the Clone Wars. After engaging Maul in a fight, Ahsoka defeated him and the villain was incarcerated. But with two episodes still left in the series, it's clear that viewers haven't seen the last of Darth Maul. Given what he knows about Anakin Skywalker and the future Emperor's plan, Maul may still attempt to complete his goal.

It would almost be poetic for the two villains to face in battle, considering they are both apprentices of Palpatine. Darth Maul and Darth Vader are two of the most iconic villains in Star Wars history, and The Clone Wars now has the perfect opportunity to have the two characters not only share the screen but face each other in battle. Both villains would have the chance to cut loose and prove which is the better Sith Lord.

Of course, a fight between the two can't end in death. After all, Vader lives to return in A New Hope, while we know that Maul survives the end of the Clone Wars given his cameo appearance in Solo: A Star Wars Story and role in Star Wars Rebels. But in the grand scheme of things, that doesn't really matter. The Clone Wars has delivered some epic confrontations, and there would be no better way for the series to end than by having two fan-favorite villains engage in the ultimate lightsaber battle.

Streaming on Disney+, the final season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars stars Matt Lanter as Anakin Skywalker, Ashley Eckstein as Ahsoka Tano, Dee Bradley Baker as Captain Rex and the clone troopers, James Arnold Taylor as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Katee Sackhoff as Bo-Katan and Sam Witwer as Maul.
