Lucasfilm released the official trailer for The Bad Batch Season 2 at Star Wars Celebration as well, which featured Commander Cody, Palpatine, a Wookiee Jedi with a green lightsaber. It was also noted that the designs of the team's new costumes were intended to show the Bad Batch "wearing their evolution as armor." The show's production team experimented with many different looks for the characters with the intention of striking a balance between Clone Troopers and something new.

Created by Dave Filoni, The Bad Batch premiered its first season on Disney+ in May 2021 and is both a sequel and spin-off of The Clone Wars animated series. Season 2 of The Bad Batch was announced in August 2021. The Bad Batch follows a squad of elite clone troopers, Clone Force 99, also known as the Bad Batch, each with their own unique genetic mutations.

The team first appeared in The Clone Wars before the series was originally canceled, but returned in the seventh season of The Clone Wars in 2020.

"Giving new and existing fans the final chapter of Star Wars: The Clone Wars has been our honor at Disney+, and we are overjoyed by the global response to this landmark series," Disney+ Senior Vice President of Content Agnes Chu said when The Bad Batch was announced. "While the Clone Wars may have come to its conclusion, our partnership with the groundbreaking storytellers and artists at Lucasfilm Animation is only beginning. We are thrilled to bring Dave Filoni's vision to life through the next adventures of the Bad Batch."

Star Wars: The Bad Batch Season 2 premieres on Disney+ sometime in fall 2022. A specific release date has not been announced.
