Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi is hard at work on his solo Star Wars film, though don't expect to see it anytime soon.

"It’s still in the 'EXT. SPACE' stage," Waititi joked to Wired regarding how far along the project is. "But we’ve got a story. I’m really excited by it because it feels very me."

Waititi also discussed what it's like to work in the serious-minded Star Wars universe. "I tend to go down that little sincerity alleyway in my films," Waititi explained. "I like to fool the viewer into thinking 'ha it’s this' and then them going, 'Damn it, you made me feel something!'"

Waititi's Star Wars film is shrouded in mystery. However, it is known that he will be writing the screenplay with Krysty Wilson-Cairns, whose other writing credits include 1917 and Last Night in Soho. Additionally, President of Lucasfilm Kathleen Kennedy previously said the project will be "fresh, unexpected, and…unique. [Waititi's] enormous talent and sense of humor will ensure that audiences are in for an unforgettable ride."

There is currently no release date for Taika Waititi's untitled Star Wars film.
