A relatively short time after a game that many fans heralded as the best Star Wars game in years, fans have got their hands on the fourth Star Wars game to come from EA in the form of Star Wars: Squadrons, a game that fulfills a dream many fans have had for years; being a pilot in the iconic Galaxy far, far away. It is not perfect, but it delivers on that idea and presents an incredibly fun experience for players.

The game does not have the replayability or universal appeal of other Star Wars games; however, before players decide to finish with the game, there are some things they need to do, complete, and experience from Squadrons.

10 Finish The Story

This is an obvious point, but the fact of the matter is that Squadrons is a multiplayer-focused game and the two multiplayer modes, Dogfight and Fleet Battles, are where all the game's replayability is– so players feasibly will jump in just for the fun, not the story.

While the campaign has some presentation and story problems, it is fun to play, extremely well made, and short & easy. On top of that, it has some fascinating characters.

9 Speak With NPCs

Vanguard Squadron

This goes hand in hand with the campaign, but talking to NPCs is an optional thing that many will ignore to get on with the story and get right to the fun stuff.

This would be a mistake, though, as talking to these characters is great. It is presented very weirdly with the characters more talking at you in a one-way conversation, but who they are and what they are saying is interesting, making you want to get to know more about their past & future.

8 Look Around Your Cockpit

Star Wars Squadrons X-Wing Cockpit VR

This game is made for fans of piloting and of the many iconic starfighters & ships of the Star Wars franchise, so getting to know these ships both practically and aesthetically is a must.

By double-tapping R3, the player can free look, giving freedom to look around the ship's cockpit, taking in all the beauty of the pilot's lower legs and the detail of the various ship's cockpit.

7 Customize Your Pilot

Star Wars Squadrons Customize Pilots

One of the things passionate Star Wars fans were looking most forward to about Squadrons was the customization options promised, an aspect of the game that does not disappoint.

One thing every fan needs to do is go through and customize their New Republic and Empire pilots. While the heads and species are limited, there are a plethora of outfits, voices, emotes, and helmets for players to enjoy.

6 Customize Your Ship

Of course, customizing the pilot is only one part of gameplay. The other, and the more exciting of the two, is customizing the ships themselves.

Unlocking various ways to customize the eight ships and messing about with paint jobs, decals, and cockpit decorations like the beloved Gonk droid and Ewok bobbleheads is a must for any player and adds a personal touch to the game.

5 Mess Around With Loadouts

Star Wars Squadrons Components

Cosmetic customization is not the extent of the game's modification aspect, though, as components are a key aspect for more skilled players who understand the game.

Every ship has two available loadout slots to fit those that suit them best. Every component is well balanced, increasing one attribute while taking away from another, e.g., increasing acceleration while decreasing maneuverability. Messing around with these components and finding a style that fits you is fantastic, and every player should try it.

4 Successfully Drift During Matches

Star Wars Squadrons Drifting

The campaign teaches players the basics and eases them into some of the game's advanced maneuvers. One of those is drifting, something Keo teaches you; however, they only give you one try.

Drifting remains a tough thing to get right, frustratingly not working time and time again. However, when you get that perfect drift, it feels vindicating and every fan should strive for it, even if it will come insanely easy to some skilled players.

3 Play With Friends

One of the great things about this game commercially is that it is available for crossplay, able to be played among friends across the different consoles. This is definitely something players should take advantage of, as jumping in the cockpit with friends by your side, laying out strategies for the game ahead, and having each other's back is immensely fun.

2 Take Apart A Flagship

There are so many opportunities for Squadrons to be highly rewarding and satisfying, from mastering things that were once impossible to going on a killer streak.

One of the most satisfying of these is taking apart a flagship. Aimlessly shooting at the flagship will not do much; it is smarter as well as more efficient and effective to dismantle them methodically by going for the subsystems, then the weak spots, and taking it apart.

1 Try VR

Earlier on, the process of free looking around the cockpits got explained, but that is not the only way to do so; VR is far more fulfilling.

Overall, VR is unlike anything Star Wars fans will have experienced before; it is insanely immersive and straight-up cool. While more fast-paced maneuvers can get sickening after a while, every fan should give the VR for this game a try if circumstances allow so.
