Electronic Arts has released a preview of the single-player story mode for Star Wars: Squadrons, where gamers can choose to either fly with the Rebel Alliance or the Empire.

The footage takes pilots inside the cockpits of the Rebel X-Wings and Empire TIE fighters, as they engage in battle in outer space. One of the early looks involves an early Imperial mission behind enemy lines.

Star Wars: Squadrons is set to release on Oct. 2 of this year on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Origin PC, Steam and the Epic Games Store, with a VR version coming to the PS4 and PC with cross-play support. EA explains the game take players on "a fateful campaign set near the conclusion of the Galactic Civil War," in which they will "learn what it means to be a pilot in a thrilling Star Wars single-player story." The game also naturally features a competitive element, allowing players to "feel the adrenaline of strategic first-person 5v5 multiplayer dogfights alongside [their] squadron."

Star Wars: Squadrons goes on sale Oct. 2 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
