Alden Ehrenreich, who gained international attention when he was cast as a young Han Solo in Solo: A Star Wars Story, has revealed what it's like for him to be joining another massive franchise: the Marvel Cinematic Universe, via Ironheart.
Ehrenreich, who is set to appear in an unknown supporting role in the Disney+ series, spoke to DiscussingFilm about the scale of the series. "Ironheart's like a very -- it's big, but it also feels personal, and so I really appreciated that about it," he said. He also added that he enjoyed the experience of acting in a major franchise again, saying that "it was fun, it was nice to go back and do a big one like that."
Since appearing in Solo, Ehrenreich has starred in NBC's 2020 adaptation of the classic novel Brave New World. His other upcoming projects include Elizabeth Banks' highly anticipated Cocaine Bear and a supporting role in Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer. Ehrenreich's character in Ironheart, like much of most of the cast, remains a mystery for the time being. Dominique Thorne reprises the lead role of Riri Williams/Ironheart from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and Anthony Ramos has been revealed to be playing supervillain Parker Robbins/The Hood (and may be set to appear in other future MCU projects as well).
What Does Ironheart Have in Store?
One rumor suggests that also appearing in the series will be Sacha Baron Cohen, to make his MCU debut as Mephisto. While there has been considerable coverage of the story, Marvel has yet to officially announce if Baron Cohen is a part of the series, or if he is playing Mephisto. An appearance by the demonic character has been a popular fan theory since WandaVision, with almost every Marvel Disney+ series since being plagued by suspicion that Mephisto would be revealed to be the big bad. WandaVision showrunner Jac Schaeffer had to clarify that the "red herrings" fans had picked up on weren't intentional -- she had never heard of Mephisto before the fan theory emerged.
The only other Ironheart cast members whose characters have been revealed are Community's Jim Rash, who will be reprising his Captain America: Civil War role as the Dean of MIT, and This is Us breakout star Lyric Ross, who will be portraying Riri's best friend. The rest of the ensemble cast includes Manny Montana, Harper Anthony, Cree Summer, Shea Couleé, Zoe Terakes, Regan Aliyah, Shakira Barrera, Rashida "Sheedz" Olayiwola, Sonia Denis and Paul Calderón.
Marvel Studios' Ironheart is set to premiere on Disney+ in fall 2023.
