What Is Skeleton Crew?

Announced at Star Wars Celebration 2022, Skeleton Crew comes from executive producers Jon Watts, Christopher Ford, Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni and originally had the codename Grammar Rodeo. The show takes place following the events 1983's Star Wars: Episode VI -- Return of the Jedi, which is the same period in which The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett are set. The project will center around a lost group of children and was described at its announcement as "a galactic version of classic Amblin coming-of-age adventure films of the ’80s." Otherwise, details about the plot are unknown, and it's not even entirely clear what Law's character is named or who else will appear in the series.

Filming on Skeleton Crew began in earlier this year, and reports claim the project has a budget larger than that of The Mandalorian. Estimates say the series is expected to spend $136 million in its first season as opposed to approximately $100 million for The Mandalorian. Part of the reason for that increase is supposedly a large amount of tax offsets from the California Film Commission.
