A Jedi icon is getting his own series exploring his life in exile in the upcoming Star Wars: Yoda limited comic book series.

Announced during Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim, the upcoming series is slated to arrive in Oct. courtesy of Marvel Comics. Penned by New York Times bestselling author Cavan Scott (Star Wars Adventures, Doctor Who) and illustrated by Nico Leon (Catwoman, Fantastic Four), the series is set to begin during the era of Star Wars: The High Republic as Yoda reflects on his previous adventures across his centuries-long life.

Speaking to StarWars.com on the topic of his part in crafting the titular Jedi's first solo series, Scott said, "I've been lucky to write Yoda in various projects over the last few years, most notably in Dooku: Jedi Lost, and every time I write him my love for him deepens. It's fair to say that my study at home is a shrine for three Star Wars icons: there are a lot of Obi-Wan figures; many, many, many, MANY pieces of Ewok merchandise (do I love those murder bears more than the Lepi? Don’t tell Jaxxon, but there’s every chance!); and then there is Yoda. The little guy is everywhere, in models, in art, and in lots of LEGO. Yoda casts a long shadow over anything he appears in, and writing him is a privilege and a responsibility I take seriously."

Editor Mark Paniccia remarked on the series, "I've been wanting to do a Yoda book since I started working on the Star Wars titles. Yoda is a very special character to me as he is to everyone working on this series. We all have our hearts and souls in this and I hope the fans enjoy it as much as we have putting it together. It's really unique and I'm very proud of it."

Both Yoda, originally voiced and puppeted by Frank Oz, and the swamp planet Dagobah were introduced to the franchise in 1980's Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back. There the former Jedi Grandmaster trained Mark Hammil's Luke Skywalker in the ways of the Force. Though Yoda's history has been expanded on throughout various entries into the Star Wars franchise, his time in exile on Dagobah following the rise of the Galactic Empire has rarely been explored. The upcoming series is slated to focus on three key moments in Yoda's life, each led by different creative teams. Scott and Leon will be followed by writer Jody Houser and artist Luke Ross for a story set just before the original prequel trilogy. Afterward, writer Marc Guggenheim and illustrator Alessandro Miracolo will examine Yoda's life near the end of the Clone Wars. Scott and Leon will return to complete the saga in the final issue.
