Lucasfilm has not forgotten about the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy characters.

"Certainly, those are not characters we’re going to forget," Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy told Empire for its upcoming Book of Boba Fett issue. "They will live on, and those are conversations that are going on with the creative team as well."

Kennedy reportedly had her contract extended three years at Lucasfilm, meaning she will likely be in charge of Star Wars media for the near future. As for the actors themselves and whether they might return to the characters, things are more up in the air.

Last year, John Boyega publicly slammed Disney and Lucasfilm for their treatment of characters of color, especially in the new Star Wars films.

"What I would say to Disney is do not bring out a black character, market them to be much more important in the franchise than they are and then have them pushed to the side," Boyega said last September. "It's not good. I'll say it straight up... You knew what to do with these other people, but when it came to Kelly Marie Tran, when it came to John Boyega, you know fuck all. So what do you want me to say? What they want you to say is, 'I enjoyed being a part of it. It was a great experience...' Nah, nah, nah. I'll take that deal when it's a great experience."

But in November 2020, Boyega claimed he'd had a conversation with the powers that be about his issues. "There was a lot of explaining on their end in terms of the way they saw things," he said. "They gave me a chance also to explain what my experience was like. I'd hope that me being so open with my career, at this stage, would help the next man. The guy that wants to be the assistant DOP, the guy that wants to be a producer. I hope that the conversation is not such a taboo or elephant in the room now, because someone just came and said it."

Given this, it's not clear where Boyega stands with Lucasfilm. As for his co-stars, Daisy Ridley recently had breakfast with Kennedy, which could be in regard to her return as Rey. Oscar Isaac, meanwhile, hasn't said much about Star Wars, but the actor is busy with the Dune franchise, which is getting a sequel. He'll also debut next year as Moon Knight, and likely has a long future inside the MCU.

The next Star Wars project to arrive is The Books of Boba Fett, which debuts Dec. 29 on Disney+.
