'Star Wars: Rogue One' Targets Forest Whitaker

Oscar winner Forest Whitaker is in negotiations to join the second "Star Wars" anthology film, "Rogue One," Variety reports.

Directed by Gareth Edwards ("Godzilla"), the film's cast already includes Felicity Jones, Riz Ahmed, Diego Luna and Ben Mendelsohn. Lucasfilm and Disney declined comment about Whitaker's involvement.

Opening Dec. 16, 2016, "Rogue One" is set just before the events of "Star Wars: A New Hope," and focuses on the band ore resistance fighters who set out on a daring missions to steal the Death Star plans from the Empire.

According to Variety, while Jones, Ahmed and Luna are tipped to play Rebels, the nature of Whitaker's role is unknown. The website also contends Whitaker
