SPOILER WARNING: This article contains minor spoilers for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, in theaters now.

In The Rise of Skywalker, the Star Wars franchise finally got its first LGBTQ+ kiss to appear in a film. However, the moment was so brief that it was able to be cut from screenings in Dubai and Singapore without affecting the plot. Now, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: The Visual Dictionary has provided some background on the characters that wasn't in the movie.

The kiss, shared between The Last Jedi's Commander Larma D'Acy and her wife Lieutenant Wrobie Tyce, took place at the end of the film when the Resistance returned to base after defeating Palpatine and the Final Order on Exegol. The Visual Dictionary's entries for D'Acy and Tyce expand on their relationship.

According to the Visual Dictionary, Tyce enlisted with the Resistance when her wife did. She was originally a courier ship pilot but, when D'Acy spoke with her about joining the Resistance, she decided to sign up as well. As a Resistance pilot, Tyce flies a RZ-2 A-wing fighter. She was a member of the Cobalt Squadron until it was destroyed, leading her to be reassigned to Snap Wexley. This is where she was during the retreat from D'Quar, which took place at the start of The Last Jedi. She was "deeply relieved" to learn D'Acy survived the Battle of Crait.

Though D'Acy's entry doesn't go deep into detail about her relationship, it does mention her wife. It reveals that the band she wears around her head throughout The Rise of Skywalker was actually a gift from Tyce. Additionally, it explains that she was promoted from fleet officer to "a broader strategic command position" after the Battle of Crait, the climactic final fight in The Last Jedi. She personally advised General Leia Organa during the events of the film.
