The past few weeks have seen a steady stream of purported leaks from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, with the latest being blurry concept art of a location that some fans have speculated is Mustafar. Given that the fiery planet was the setting of the duel between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker, and later house Fortress Vader, it's certainly a good guess for a franchise so fond of thematic parallels and bookends. But what if it's another planet, with an even deeper significance to the mythos?

The art, posted by the fan site Making Star Wars, is pixelated, but there's enough detail for us to make out in some pieces what appears to be lava and cliffs, which lend credence to the Mustafar theory. In addition to Darth Vader's castle, the planet is home to a Sith cave, as well as the tomb of Lord Momin, a Sith necromancer who returned from the dead through a mask.

However, the volcanic planet may be even darker, more legendary and more dangerous. Say, Moraband, home world of the ancient Sith.

Moraband is a red-and-black sand planet that is, like Mustafar, in the Outer Rim. It was utterly devastated thousands of years ago, and its main “attraction” is the Valley of the Dark Lords, a corridor of ancient crypts containing the remains of the Dark Lords.

It was also the home, and tomb, of Darth Bane, the Sith Lord that destroyed the traditions of his own kind by enacting the rule of two: There could only be two active Sith at any time, a Dark Lord to hold the power, and an apprentice to crave it. They would favor the power in the shadows, until the moment came to rise and reclaim the galaxy.

Despite his proclamation in Star Wars: The Last Jedi to "let the past die," Kylo Ren is clearly still fascinated it, moving beyond keeping his grandfather's mangled helmet as a keepsake to now, as Supreme Leader of the First Order, apparently resurrecting the Sith Troopers in a new form. In the first trailer for The Rise of Skywalker, Kylo seems to be repairing his own mask, which when added to the Sith Troopers and the return of the Knights of Ren, suggest a commitment to Sith history.

Moraband would create a perfect thematic parallel between the destruction of Luke Skywalker's Jedi school at the hands of Kylo, the First Jedi Temple on Ach-To, and this primordial site of the first Sith temple. If Kylo wants to finish what his grandfather started, he will probably go to the source of the Sith in Moraband, rather than make a pilgrimage to Mustafar. Or maybe he wants to end the cycle that Darth Bane started now that he has the galaxy in his fist.
