In Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Rey found a new master to train her in the ways of the Jedi: Leia Organa. After the General's death, Rey travelled to Ahch-To, where Luke Skywalker's Force Ghost passed on Leia's lightsaber to her. The debut of Leia's lightsaber was noteworthy in and of itself, and it continued to play an important role throughout the rest of the film.

Now, concept artist Matthew Savage has shared a close look at Leia's lightsaber, revealing the inspiration behind its particular design.

"I was fortunate to be one of the many people involved in the design of Leia's Lightsaber for Rise of Skywalker," Savage wrote. "The design begin as a prototype prop make and bounced between myself and the prop makers until being finalised. The emitter area was inspired by a Walter Von Nessen, Art Deco Lamp that JJ had taken a shine to."
