Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker cut a scene that featured Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) torturing Chewbacca.

Joonas Suotamo, the actor who took over the role of Chewie after original actor Peter Mayhew retired from the part after Star Wars: The Force Awakens, wrote in his book, Roar! My Life as a Wookiee, that director J.J. Abrams filmed the scene but decided to remove it from the final cut. Suotamo is not sure why it was not placed in the final film, although he guessed that it was either too extreme for the family crowd-pleaser or did not make sense with Kylo's final arc, which eventually saw him return to the Light side. He also wrote that it was difficult to film and that Driver was "truly sociopathic" in that scene.

Concept artist Ryan Church shared some art on Twitter that he illustrated after reading the scene in the script. "In the script this moment was a bit vague, I chose a camera angle, composition and gesture that says all there is to say about the relationship here," he wrote. "It could have been one of the most intense, meaningful moments of the Trilogy." He also noted that the chain holding Chewie up and the position of his head form the shape of an arrow pointing straight at Kylo.

Adam Brockbank, another Star Wars concept artist, also shared an image from a scene that was cut from the film. This piece of art showcases Rey and Kylo battling it out in the sandy deserts of Tatooine, specifically the ruins of the old Lars homestead. He also illustrated a rough sketch of Dark Rey dressed in red robes similar to the garb of the Emperor's Royal Guard.
