The Star Wars Saga is filled with iconic and unforgettable space ship designs, some of which have become the most recognized in all science fiction or pop culture at large. With Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker completing the recent film trilogy, many of these classic space vehicles got modern facelifts.

Lucasfilm VP and Executive Creative Director Doug Chiang has revealed concept art for a new type of Star Destroyer proposed for The Rise of Skywalker. The concept was intended to be utilized by the First Order and features what the artist calls a "double-decker" design.

The full post reads, "A new First Order Star Destroyer concept for EP9! I thought a double-decker might be fun 😁 #starwars #spaceship #conceptualart #design #digitalillustration" It is unknown if this drastic variation on the traditional shape of the Star Destroyer would have played into its features in any notable way, as it was ultimately not used in the film.

The Star Destroyer first appeared in the original 1978 Star Wars film, later subtitled Episode IV: A New Hope, and has appeared in many films, shows and other spinoff media since. They are often considered one of the most recognizable designs of the Star Wars franchise, alongside the iconic X-Wing and TIE-Fighter.

Abrams, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker stars Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong'o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, Billie Lourd, Keri Russell, Anthony Daniels, Mark Hamill, Billy Dee Williams and Carrie Fisher, with Naomi Ackie and Richard E. Grant. The film is now available on Digital HD, Blu-ray, 4K UHD and Disney+.
