Anthony Daniels, during his book tour for I Am C-3PO, held a signing event in Toronto on Nov. 10 where he answered questions from Star Wars fans about his experience as the only actor that has been in all nine Star Wars movies, and he shared many anecdotes about the filming of The Rise of Skywalker -- particularly about the harsh weather scenes, filmed on location, his co-stars Daisy Ridley, John Boyega and Oscar Isaac, and some of the sets where the last installment of the Skywalker saga will take place.

One of his favorite scenes, that he mentioned also in the Paris interview, was the duel between Rey and Kylo Ren atop the ruins of the Death Star. "I think that a slightly droll moment... I talked about Daisy being on this horrific water battle outside, in the British countryside. And I gotta tell you, in The Rise of Skywalker, we watched Daisy do things that... Well, the poster it shows her battling with Kylo Ren in torrents of water. What you don't know is that was outside, in November, in England.  And everybody else is dressed up totally in wet weather gear, and she's wearing a flimsy frock. Huge kudos to her."

In a follow-up question, a fan asked Daniels about funny on-set anecdotes, and he went back to The Rise of Skywalker and its extremely realistic conditions.

"There was another scene where I was in, with Oscar and John and so on. And really, you will see that we are going around this rather frightening place and we're outside and it's in the middle of the night, there are snow machines and our wind machines and I'm all dolled and that kind of thing and they're in their real clothes... but in between takes, as they're setting up another thing, all these really macho, rugged heroes -- and me -- were just clutching hot water bottles to keep warm. I don't know if they've talked about this much, they probably haven't."

When asked about sets, Daniels also remembered those of Episode IX more vividly than the rest. "I have lots of favorite sets. But in Episode IX, a favorite location was a different kind of desert. Now, I don't normally like deserts, but the deserts of Jordan are just bewildering and wonderful; you might go there someday and see these rocky cliffs and so on."

Due to the restrictions of his costume, some of Daniel's favorite sets are those that have an even surface -- it would seem that First Order Star Destroyers would apply, but that's not the case. "Anything with a flat floor. The trouble is now, any baddy spaceship, where people run around in black costumes, black floor,  they're often very shiny, and they have tiny little leaps all over the place, just to make them look interesting. And if Threepio's toe can find it, it will. So, you know, the other day I was just standing, I moved like that and suddenly I began to topple, 'cause I hit a bump."

Fortunately the heroic trio of Episode IX was there to save him. "And you'll read that often Daisy and John and Oscar would just rescue me, they were constantly grabbing me as I fell over a tuft of grass or something on the set. It's a minefield for Threepio."

Finally, he praised the meticulous work of Episode IX's soundstage set artisans for transforming Pinewood into a realistic Resistance base. "There's a Rebel Base, there's always a Rebel Base. This one, mostly, was inside a giant soundstage at Pinewood. And I promise you, our eyes dropped when we walked in. The wonder that is created out of lumps of polystyrene and plaster, it's so thrilling. But you won't know it's not a real place, 'cause it looks absolutely believable. And unfortunately, that had the kind of rocky, grassy floors that... I mean, when I'm not working, I'm walking around like this looking and feeling for any bumps that could kill me on the way."
