The most recent set of Star Wars movies allude to the end of the Skywalker Saga — that is, with the exception of Rey. Over the span of three movies, the audience sees Rey struggle with her identity and burgeoning Jedi powers. At the end of the final move, The Rise of Skywalker, Rey accepts herself and takes on a new identity — Rey Skywalker. She takes a look at her new yellow lightsaber and walks off into the sunset. Her journey as a Jedi was only just beginning as the movie came to a close.

That being said, Rey deserves her own sequel series. A new series of Star Wars movies centered around Rey would deliver what the existing trilogy sequel promised, and lay the original story to rest in the way that it's worthy of. Rey would be the perfect character to focus those movies on.

With her undeniable power revealed in previous movies, Rey has the potential to become a Jedi Master. She demonstrates new force powers -- some of which had never been seen in previous Star Wars movies -- in the sequel trilogy that are usually reserved for the most powerful of Jedi. This includes Force lightning, the Force bond and life Force transference. Thanks to her devout faith in the Jedi way and the Light Side of the Force, Rey eventually comes into complete control and ownership of her powers. This would make her a great teacher to young Jedis, even better than the jaded version of Luke displayed in the sequel trilogy.

When she was in training, Rey typically used Luke and Leia's lightsabers. The end of The Rise of Skywalker reveals she acquires her own yellow lightsaber -- a small detail which is actually a big deal. A Jedi's lightsaber reflects certain characteristics of the person that wields it. In Star Wars lore, a yellow lightsaber signifies someone who has struck a perfect balance between combat and the Force. Yellow lightsabers are incredibly rare, so characters who carry them haven't really been explored in the Star Wars cinematic universe. This would open up a brand new chapter of the story that is completely separate from the original saga.

The final scene in The Rise of Skywalker is the most overwhelming evidence of why Rey deserves her own sequel trilogy. The existing sequel trilogy is all about identity — the original trio's importance to the galaxy and Rey trying to find her own place. After an emotional journey and discovery of her true lineage, she makes an interesting choice and takes on the Skywalker name.

Her decision in doing so could make for a thrilling new series. With Luke, Han and Leia all gone, the original Skywalker Saga is truly over. Star Wars is about how anyone -- even a farmer, a slave, or a a scavenger -- can be a hero. Rey's decision builds on that theme and proves that people are in charge of their own fate despite their origin. A series in which Rey further sheds the Palpatine name in order to carry on the Skywalker legacy and build up a new generation of Jedi has the potential to become a great Star Wars sequel trilogy.
