Disney XD has officially announced a Fall premiere date for the fourth and final season of the Emmy-nominated animated series Star Wars Rebels. It will debut with an hour-long episode Monday, October 16, on Disney XD and the Disney XD app. The announcement came with a new trailer that promises a lot of action as the story continues to tie in to the original Star Wars trilogy and its prequel, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
Season 4 picks up with the Ghost crew joining the Rebel Alliance to take on the Galactic Empire. The trailer teases a new Imperial threat arising on Lothal, which encourages Ezra to lead the crew back to his home world to take on the forces of Grand Admiral Thrawn as the Empire's grip on the galaxy continues to grow and strengthen.
While fans got confirmation earlier today that the famous X-Wings would be arriving this season, they were now treated to some tension regarding the ways of the Force between Ezra and his now-blind Jedi mentor Kanan, as well as a few callbacks to Rogue One via Saw Guerra, Mon Mothma and Grand Moff Tarkin mentioning Orson Krennic's 'Stardust' project -- which alludes to the Death Star.
Debuting in 2014, Star Wars Rebels is set just before the events of 1977's Star Wars, and focuses the rag-tag crew of the Ghost and the fledgling Rebellion. The series has not only tied up some of the loose threads of its animated predecessor The Clone Wars, reintroducing some fan-favorite characters, but it will now bring full-circle how the original Star Wars movies began and just how big a catalyst Rogue One: A Star Wars Story really was after handing the Death Star schematics to the Rebellion.
Star Wars Rebels is a production of Lucasfilm created by Simon Kinberg, Dave Filoni and Carrie Beck, starring Taylor Gray, Freddie Prinze Jr., Vanessa Marshall, Tiya Sircar and Steven Blum.
