The most recent trailer for the fourth and final season of Disney XD's Star Wars: Rebels name-dropped Director Orson Krennic, the Death Star special weapons supervisor and antagonist of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, but don't expect to see an animated version of the character appearing any time soon. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Dave Filoni revealed that the character will not appear in the final season.

"Name-dropping," Filoni said of the reference. "It's always fun to make it feel like it's part of this big world... But the cape alone would be half my budget, just to make it flow."

Filoni did go on to mention that he once envisioned bringing the villains from that era together in one scene. "I was imagining a shot with Vader and Krennic and the Emperor," he said, "but it's like having a cape convention with those guys. Then you have Tarkin and Thrawn, and it starts too [sic] look like a Legion of Bad Guys. When you get too many bizarre Star Wars villains together, I don't know if it works for me."

Debuting in 2014, Star Wars Rebels is set just before the events of 1977's Star Wars and focuses on the rag-tag crew of the Ghost and the fledgling Rebellion. The series tied up some of the loose threads of its animated predecessor The Clone Wars, reintroducing some fan-favorite characters, and it will now bring the original Star Wars movies full-circle while showing just how big a catalyst Rogue One really was.

Star Wars Rebels will return to Disney XD on October 16. The show is a production of Lucasfilm created by Simon Kinberg, Dave Filoni and Carrie Beck and stars Taylor Gray, Freddie Prinze Jr., Vanessa Marshall Tiya Sircar and Steven Blum.
