Ahead of tonight's two-part midseason premiere of "Star Wars Rebels," Disney XD has debuted a clip that pits Forest Whitaker's Saw Gerrera against the entire Ghost crew.

A promo for "Ghosts of Geonosis, Parts One and Two" hinted that Saw might not exactly see eye to eye with Ezra, Hera & Co., but this scene shows just how much of a divide there is. "We need to be careful," Hera warns Kanaan. "From what I hear, Saw's got a reputation for being a little ... extreme." Needless to say, it takes the Ghost crew only a matter of seconds to see just how extreme he can be.

Saw's appearance on "Star Wars Rebels" was revealed last month when the character, who played a significant role in "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," was spotted on a poster for the animated series. The was soon followed by the announcement that "Rogue One" star Whitaker who reprise his role as Saw.

Originally voiced by y Andrew Kishino, Saw debuted in the 2012 “Clone Wars” episode “A War on Two Fronts,” where he was a leader of the Onderon rebels in the fight against the Confederacy of Independent Systems. His arc played out over the subsequent three Season Five episodes. In “Rogue One,” Whitaker’s Saw Gerrera is the leader of an extremist faction of the Rebel Alliance on Jedha, and serves as mentor and surrogate father to Felicity Jones’ Jyn Erso.

"Star Wars Rebels" Executive Producer Dave Filoni has described Saw as "maybe the original Rebel." “He is the first one in a long line of people that got trained by the Jedi to fight for themselves to save their planets during the Clone Wars," he explained in a featurette focusing on the character. "He is the beginning of what would eventually become the Rebel Alliance.”

“We wanted to create a connection between ‘Rebels’ and ‘Rogue One’ that was on the heels of the movie coming out,” said Rayne Roberts, creative executive of the Lucasfilm story group. “And it just ended up making a lot of sense that Saw would be our connective tissue.”

Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy has teased there may be plans for Saw beyond "Rogue One" and "Rebels." “With Saw Gerrera, we just became very intrigued with him as a character [from ‘The Clone Wars’] and how he fits inside this story,” she said. “[…] To be honest, we originally thought we were going to develop Saw into something much larger, but we couldn’t accommodate it. So he is not in the movie as much as we would like to have him in the movie, which creates the opportunity to explore his character even further in our future development.”

"Star Wars Rebels" returns tonight at 8:30 ET/PT on Disney XD.
