“The team behind 'Star Wars Rebels' delivers epic storytelling that has captivated fans of all ages across the globe,” Disney XD Senior Vice President Marc Buhaj said in an official press release. “We’re excited to continue sharing the journey of these fan-favorite rebels with our audience in the fall.”

“Star Wars Rebels” has been airing on Disney XD since 2014. Created by Simon Kinberg ("Legion"), Dave Filoni ("Star Wars: Clone Wars") and Carrie Beck ("Lego Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures"), the show’s third season, which introduced the villainous Grand Admiral Thrawn, will conclude on March 25.

“Star Wars Rebels” follows galactic strife in the intervening years between “Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith” and “Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope,” centering on the crew of a rogue spacefaring freighter bent on disrupting Empire forces on and around the planet Lothal. The time period in which “Star Wars Rebels” takes place is largely unexplored in films, though extremely important, as it is the time during which the Galactic Empire consolidated control after the former ruling body, the Galactic Republic, was overthrown.

“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” is the only canonical “Star Wars” film to explore this time, as it leads directly into the events of “A New Hope.” “Star Wars Rebels'” third season took advantage of this, introducing one of "Rogue One's" primary characters, disillusioned Rebel soldier Saw Gerrera, even going as far as to get Oscar-winning actor Forest Whitaker to reprise his role.

The third season of “Star Wars Rebels” has seen the crew of the Ghost tackle their biggest threat to date: the cold and analytical Grand Admiral Thrawn played by Lars Mikkelsen, “House of Cards” actor and older brother of “Rogue One” star Mads Mikkelsen. Thrawn gives the crew and their leader, the force-sensitive Ezra, a run for their money with his patience and brutal decisiveness.
