When R2-D2 was introduced in A New Hope, the world was very taken by this extremely cute blue droid and its golden sidekick C-3PO. R2-D2 proved to be extremely useful in various instances, saving the skins of the heroes far more than once. In The Force Awakens, fans were introduced to BB-8, who gave R2-D2 tough competition on the cuteness scale.
Both of these droids help the heroes in many ways and provide much-needed levity to these sometimes bleak movies. Star Wars wouldn't be Star Wars without these droids, and here are some of their cutest moments.
10 R2-D2: Getting Shocked By A Power Socket
In The Empire Strikes Back, amid the chaos, viewers see R2 trying to reach into a computer terminal in order to override the security. But R2 accidentally inserts himself into a power socket, mistaking it to be a computer terminal. He gets shocked and has to rely on Chewie to save him.
The ensuing conversation between a disgruntled and disheveled R2 and C-3PO is also highly amusing. Watching R2 getting shocked and Chewie save him is an incredibly cute moment.
9 BB-8: Shocks Finn When He's Wearing Poe's Jacket
BB-8 is very attached to Poe, and, when he sees Finn wearing Poe's jacket, he immediately proceeds to shock Finn. He thinks that Finn has stolen it from Poe and is super agitated about it. BB-8's annoyance slowly turns into sadness when Finn informs him that Poe hasn't made it. With no dialogue and no facial expressions, the droid is still able to express how much he loves Poe and how affected he is about this news.
8 R2-D2: When Obi-Wan Is On Loudspeaker
In Revenge Of The Sith, Obi-Wan and Anakin keep reaching out to R2 to get the elevator to work. R2-D2 is helping them both to rescue Chancellor Palpatine, though, at that moment, he was trying to stay out of the sight of some investigative battle droids. Obi-Wan's communicator was giving him away, however, and hilarity ensued.
The timing of the situation and R2's frantic attempts to quiet Obi-Wan's orders down so as to not attract attention were incredibly funny.
7 BB-8: Following Rey After First Meeting Her
While the relationship between Poe and BB-8 is incredibly tight-knit, the relationship between Rey and BB-8 is also not far-off from that. From the time BB-8 meets Rey, the droid keeps following her around, refusing to leave her or go anywhere else. BB-8 just follows her around and eventually back to her place, and it is quite adorable how quickly BB-8 trusts Rey and bonds with her. Rey returns the affection quite quickly, as well.
6 R2-D2: Meeting C-3PO For The First Time
In The Phantom Menace, viewers see the first time R2-D2 and C-3PO meet. It is an incredibly funny meeting, though it's predicated on the fact that audiences have already seen in the original Star Wars trilogy and know how close these two would become.
This glimpse of the beginning of their relationship is quite amusing. Their first interaction closely resembles the future dynamics of their relationship, and viewers can see the humorous camaraderie between the two of them from the get-go.
5 BB-8: Taking Down A Guard With Coins
BB-8 takes down guards by shooting out an immense number of casino coins that a drunk gambler had kept inserting into the droid, believing it to be a slot machine. To help Finn and Rose, BB-8 employs some pretty creative tactics, and it ultimately saves their skins in the end.
It's more of a harmless gag than an actual attack, and the comical element to this eruption of coins from BB-8 makes it quite a fun moment in The Last Jedi.
4 R2-D2: Meeting Yoda The First Time
Yoda doesn't reveal himself initially and playfully messes around with both Luke and R2-D2 in The Empire Strikes Back. When R2 tries to take Luke's lamp from Yoda's hand, Yoda starts smacking him left, right, and center. R2-D2 makes voices his irritation, and Luke finally puts an end to it. Yoda hitting R2-D2 with his stick and R2-D2's astonishment at it makes it an incredibly cute and funny moment in the movie.
3 BB-8: When Poe's Ship Explodes
As already established, BB-8 is completely loyal and dedicated to Poe. So, when Poe's ship explodes into flames at the beginning of The Force Awakens, BB-8 turns around very sadly to look at the scene. BB-8 was asked to leave quickly and to not be captured, and so was struggling to make its way away from there. But, when the flames engulf the scene, BB-8 can't help but turn around and look incredibly sad. He may be a droid, but he can be remarkably human.
2 R2-D2: Screams And Hits The Wall
In Revenge Of The Sith, R2-D2 rushes to catch up with Obi-Wan and Anakin during their rescue of the chancellor from General Grievous' ship. R2 has just escaped the battle droids and enters making a screaming sound and crashing into the wall. The scene is quite hilarious, as Obi-Wan is doubting R2's capabilities, and Anakin defends him, only to immediately be proven wrong.
1 BB-8: Meeting R2-D2 For The First Time
The two droids meeting each other completed many fans' fantasies. While R2-D2 was the original cute droid, BB-8 is the new cute droid in the Star Wars universe. The meeting of these two droids and their cute sounds and actions made very evident why these two are loved so dearly by fans.
