Details have finally been revealed regarding Star Wars' mysterious Project Luminous.

Claudia Gray, Justina Ireland, Daniel José Older, Cavan Scott and Charles Soule are the authors linked to Project Luminous, which is a new publishing initiative between Disney-Lucasfilm Press, IDW Publishing and Marvel Comics. The first initiative announced was Star Wars: The High Republic, which takes place 200 years ago in the golden age of the Republic, before the Skywalker Saga. The major selling point is this era will not tie into any planned films or television series, allowing the creators an opportunity to tell all-new adventures.

Star Wars: The High Republic features the Jedi as we’ve always wanted to see them — as true guardians of peace and justice. This is a hopeful, optimistic time, when the Jedi and the Galactic Republic are at their height. But of course, into this glorious new era something wicked this way comes,” Lucasfilm Publishing Creative Director Michael Siglain said. “This initiative will give readers young and old a new corner of the galaxy to explore through rich, meaningful stories. Plus, readers will learn what scares the Jedi.”

“This was a golden age for the Jedi, and also a time of galactic expansion in the Outer Rim. So expect there to be rich tales of exploration; charting out the galaxy, meeting new cultures, and discovering what pioneer life in the Outer Rim was like," said James Waugh, Lucasfilm Vice President of Franchise Content and Strategy. "This is an incredible sandbox for our storytellers to play in, both within publishing and beyond, and we can’t wait to see the great fiction they build within it."

Star Wars: The High Republic kicks off in August at Star Wars Celebration Anaheim with Star Wars: The High Republic: Light of the Jedi by Charles Soule. Other books and comics include Star Wars: The High Republic: Into the Dark, a young adult novel by Claudia Gray; Star Wars: The High Republic: A Test of Courage middle-grade novel by Justina Ireland; Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures IDW series by Daniel José Older; and a Marvel comics series titled Star Wars: The High Republic by Cavan Scott.
