A most terrible show of power, the Force choke is also the quickest way to subdue an adversary and leave them (literally) fighting for their breath. Essentially, it's much the same as strangulation, but anyone who is Force-sensitive in Star Wars can telekinetically choke someone from a distance. All they need to do is flex their fingers as if they are actually holding their victim's neck in their hands.
Owing to the intent and nature of the move, Force choke is usually associated with the Sith—and is, in fact, the go-to move for some of the most famous Sith Lords—but many Jedi have also been known to use it, when sufficiently motivated or in desperate need.
10 Savage Opress — True to his name, he could be quite savage while using the Force choke
Of all those who used the Force choke as a means to overpower someone else, Savage Opress was perhaps one of the most intimidating ones. It was scary how he could dominate the room, in the presence of Jedis and Sith acolytes and cut off the supply of air to their lungs.
The first time he used the Force choke, in The Clone Wars, was when he was sent to capture the king of Toydaria and came face to face with Obi-Wan and Anakin. Even as the two Jedi physically tried to restrain him, Savage managed to use the Force choke on the king, Katuunko, and kill him. Right after, facing criticism from both Count Dooku and Asajj Ventress, he lifted them both off their feet, choked them with the Force, and threw them across the room.
9 Count Dooku — He has used it to overpower many, including Obi-Wan Kenobi
A former Jedi, Count Dooku is an immensely powerful Force-sensitive individual and has a firm grip over the Force choke. He has used it to overpower many—a pirate called Turk Falso, Zygerrian Queen Miraj Scintel, Silman, a couple of guards, and Anakin Skywalker.
In his last use of the Force choke, Count Dooku shows his great power by strangling Obi-Wan and pushing him away to face Anakin alone. Technically it was a good idea to incapacitate one Jedi and focus on another, but it ended up being the worst decision of his life as Anakin went on to chop off his hands and then decapitate him in a matter of minutes.
8 Darth Sidious — he choked people quite casually
Of all those who used Force choke, Darth Sidious' manner of usage was definitely the most cavalier of them all. While others did it in a fit of rage or to defend themselves, Sidious choked people quite casually—going so far as to even kill them in the process. The Mandalorians he comes across on Sundari are most unfortunate in this regard.
Sidious is incredibly cruel not only to helpless guards but to his apprentices as well. He Force chokes both Darth Vader and Count Dooku, on separate occasions, because he thinks them weak and incompetent. The latter, in fact, he Force chokes through a holocomm.
7 Asajj Ventress — She never really crosses the line & kills someone with it
Ventress has used the Force choke on quite a few people. But it has always been a defensive move, or a means to convince someone to give her information, as she does with Captain Rex.
There is a moment when she is so filled with anger that she is able to lift Obi-Wan and Anakin off the ground and Force choke them—just so she could escape them and return home. Another time, she is very frustrated with the young Boba Fett—the two are working with a bunch of bounty hunters—and she strangles him to shut him up.
6 Darth Maul — he does not hesitate to taunt people & cause them intentional harm with his force choke
While most have used the Force choke as a means to warn someone, to dominate them, and tell them to follow their orders, others like Darth Maul have used the action to taunt people and to cause them intentional harm. He has also had no qualms in killing someone right after, with a lightsaber, to prove a point.
During the battle for Mandalore, when the Death Watch is attempting to take over the planet, he suggests his services to their cause if he gets to kill Kenobi. When Bo-Katan refuses, he Force-chokes her and reiterates that they should work together. Bo-Katan is lucky, as he releases her right after. But Satine Kryze, her sister, and Seventh Sister are not so lucky. Maul uses the Force choke on them to taunt Obi-Wan and Ezra Bridger and then kills both women with the Darksaber and a lightsaber, respectively.
5 Luke Skywalker — his use of the Force choke is effortless
Luke is a full-fledged Jedi knight at the start of Return of the Jedi, and he is quick to show off his new skills as he enters Jabba the Hutt's palace on Tatooine. Cloaked and mysterious, he glides through the entryway and with two delicate motions of his hands, Force chokes the two guards—Ortugg and Rogua—enough to make them lose consciousness, and then moves on to converse with Jabba himself.
In a franchise filled with dramatic entries, featuring exciting lightsaber fights, this one is perhaps the most effortlessly cool of them all. Luke's use of the Force choke is also effortless; his intention is only to temporarily incapacitate the guards, not cause them severe harm or kill them.
4 Kylo Ren — he often used the Force choke to subdue those who annoyed him
Like his grandfather, Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader, Kylo Ren often used the Force choke to subdue those who annoyed him or those who failed to accomplish their tasks. General Hux, who seems to have a long-standing disdain for Kylo, is one of the prominent characters to suffer the Force choke.
When Kylo orders him to send a battalion to Crait, Hux refuses to do so and then subsequently finds his neck being strangled by telekinesis. Kylo doesn't kill him though. This Force choke is only a warning. He metes out the same treatment to Agent Tierny and General Quinn for being weak and quarrelsome, respectively.
3 Ahsoka Tano — when she is kidnapped by a group of Tradoshans, she employs the use of the Force choke to free herself
In the most unfortunate of circumstances, Ahsoka gets framed for the murder of Letta Turmond and has to flee the Jedi forces since no one would believe that she didn't commit the crime. A witness presumes to see Ahsoka Force choke Letta, and everyone, barring Plo Koon and Anakin, believes the witness' word instead of Ahsoka's. Although Ahsoka is proved to be innocent, she loses faith in the Jedi Order and leaves it forever.
Much earlier, when she is kidnapped by a group of Tradoshans, she employs the use of the Force choke to weaken a guard before throwing him to the ground. Her act isn't driven by anger or fear, but with the intent of swiftly making her exit from her captors.
2 Grogu — he still packs a punch when he is in a desperate situation
He might be the smallest of the lot, but Grogu still packs a punch when he is in a desperate situation. More so, when he thinks his Mandalorian father figure, Din Djarin, is in trouble. He helps him with the Mudhorn, lifting the massive animal with the Force and allowing Din to kill the beast. And he helps him when he thinks someone is trying to overpower him.
In the latter case, unfortunately, he doesn't quite read the situation that well and assumes Cara Dune is trying to cause Din harm, when she is only indulging in a bit of arm-wrestling with the Mandalorian. And so, he draws his lovable face into an expression of concentration and proceeds to Force choke her in order to stop her from defeating Din. His look of shock and surprise as Din tells him she is a friend, is a most adorable sight. Much later though, things are quite serious inside Moff Gideon's ship where, in anger and frustration, Grogu uses the Force on a few Stormtroopers, flailing them around his prison, and also choking them.
1 Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader — he has never shied away from using Force choke
In both forms, as a Jedi and as a Sith Lord, Anakin has never shied away from using Force choke to incapacitate someone. When he was still on the side of the Light, he was once captured and bound by Queen Miraj Scintel on Zygerria. Enraged that Obi-Wan and Ahsoka were not there with him, he caught Scintel in a Force choke and asked her where his friends were. He had to let go when she threatened that Obi-Wan and Ahsoka would be killed if he continued choking her.
In this manner, Anakin let his anger get the better of him many times. And many times he Force choked someone because he needed some information that they were not being very forthcoming about. This side of his personality only worsened when he became Darth Vader. Anyone who displeased him found themselves getting choked by the Sith Lord. In a very famous scene, after Admiral Motti annoyed him, Darth Vader Force choked him and told him that he found "lack of faith disturbing."
