Obi-Wan Kenobi will kick off the summer as the Star Wars spinoff series now has a release date.

First reported by Variety, the show will arrive May 25 on Disney+, skipping the popular May the 4th holiday and instead arriving on the 45th anniversary of Star Wars: A New Hope's original release. Disney CEO Bob Chapek announced the news during the company’s Q4 earnings call Wednesday before the official Star Wars account tweeted out the news along with the first poster for the series. And with the show now right around the corner, fans should expect to see the first trailer shortly.

The earnings call saw Disney+ announce immense growth, ending 2021 with 129.8 million paying customers worldwide. Star Wars has played no small part in the growth, with The Mandalorian receiving praise for its two seasons. The animated series The Bad Batch followed suit, earning a second season that's expected to arrive this year. And The Book of Boba Fett has continued telling stories set in the galaxy far, far away, recently bringing numerous Mandalorian characters into the fold and debuting the live-action take on Cad Bane.

Like Boba Fett's adventures on the small screen, Obi-Wan Kenobi will take place on Tatooine, where the Jedi spends the years following the Republic's downfall in hiding, watching over the young Luke Skywalker. The series will take place 10 years after the prequels' end and Anakin Skywalker's transformation into Darth Vader, but little else is known about the plot. It will, however, see the return of Hayden Christensen alongside Ewan McGregor. And Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse will also be returning to play Owen Lars and Beru Lars, respectively, Luke's guardians from the end of Revenge of the Sith and the beginning of A New Hope.

Joining the returning cast members will be Moses Ingram, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, and Benny Safdie. All of their roles are being kept under wraps, but Ingram, Kang, and Friend are all rumored to be playing the Jedi-hunting Inquisitors, with Friend said to be playing the Grand Inquisitor first seen on Star Wars Rebels.

The show's May release will see it split up the time between The Book of Boba Fett's finale, arriving the same day as the announcement, and the return of Din Djarin, as a recent rumor claimed The Mandalorian Season 3 will arrive this holiday season.
