Disney+ revealed a behind-the-scenes look at Obi-Wan Kenobi.

The footage, which was swiftly pulled, featured commentary from star Ewan McGregor and director Deborah Chow, along with concept art from the show. One of those pieces of art saw Obi-Wan and Darth Vader having their much-anticipated rematch, while others showed off stormtroopers, an Inquisitor and a more grizzled Obi-Wan.

An Obi-Wan Kenobi project has been on fans' radar for years. However, it wasn't until D23 in 2019 that the Disney+ series was officially announced. "It’s a fucking massive relief," McGregor said shortly after. "Because for four years, I’ve been having to lie to people about it."

As for the plot, Obi-Wan Kenobi will explore the time between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope during the former Jedi Master's period of exile on Tatooine while watching over Luke Skywalker. In addition to McGregor, the show is bringing back Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse as Owen and Beru Lars and, most notably, Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader for what Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy described as "the rematch of the century."

Much like the sands of Tatooine, production on Obi-Wan Kenobi was rough. In early 2020, it was reported that the project was put on hold because Kennedy was unhappy with the scripts. McGregor played damage control soon after, saying, "It's not been put on hold, it's just been pushed back a little bit. The scripts are excellent and they just want them to be better, so we just pushed it back. It's very dramatic, it would seem, online. There's all kinds of shit online about it but it's only just slid back a bit, but we're still shooting it, it'll still be aired when it was meant to be, and I'm really excited about it. It'll be fun to play again."

Despite McGregor's reassurance, it was revealed several months later that Joby Harold had been brought on board to pen new Obi-Wan Kenobi scripts for Chow, who cut her Star Wars teeth on Season 1 of The Mandalorian.

For McGregor, who was a fan-favorite of the prequel trilogy, Obi-Wan Kenobi represents both a return to his Star Wars roots and a chance to do something new with the franchise. I'm more excited about doing this one than I was doing the second and third one that we did before," he said in 2020, referring to Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith. "I'm just excited to play him again. It's been long enough since I played him before."

Obi-Wan Kenobi has yet to receive a premiere date.
