While a majority of Star Wars focuses on the Skywalker family, Obi-Wan Kenobi also plays a large role in the series. Even after his death, he still affects the outcome of the series. With this in mind, fans probably wonder what Obi-Wan was doing between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope.

By watching the television shows and reading a few comics and books, it's possible to figure out what Obi-Wan did during his time in hiding. Some of his activities are expected, such as helping out familiar faces, while others might come as a shock. With a new TV show about him on the way, more about this time period will be revealed.

10 Went Into Exile On Tatooine

After delivering Luke to Owen Lars, Obi-Wan also went into exile close by. Owen did not want Obi-Wan to play a part in raising Luke, afraid that Luke would be killed as a result. Obi-Wan started to go by the name of Ben to hide from the Empire and started a new life in an abandoned hut.

It was during this time, too, that Obi-Wan visited Anakin's mother's grave and tried to give up being a Jedi. Because of his time in the desert, he got a reputation of being a hermit. Sitting by and doing nothing did not sit well with Obi-Wan, who started to be a silent guardian.

9 Defended The Lars Homestead

When Luke was only 3-years-old, Obi-Wan got a sense that Luke and his family were in danger. Bandits were attacking the family, with Obi-Wan rushing in to help. Obi-Wan defeated the bandits, saving the family from a possible death.

The defense wasn't appreciated by everyone, with Owen punching Obi-Wan to the ground. Owen was afraid that Luke would become influenced by what he saw during the attack. Without any thanks, Obi-Wan is yelled at and told to never return to the home.

8 Wrote Journals For Luke

During his time in self-exile, Obi-Wan started to write journals for Luke to find. Each journal follows Obi-Wan's journey around Tatooine, from helping the Skywalker family to simple trips to town. It even tells how Obi-Wan saw master Yoda while in Mos Eisley.

After Obi-Wan is killed on the Death Star, Luke returns to the former's hut. He finds the journals in a case, labeled "For Luke." It could then be assumed Luke read the journals while studying to be a Jedi.

7 Saved 8-Year-Old Luke

Despite Owen's warnings, Obi-Wan still comes around to make sure the family is safe. The Skywalker family was being extorted by Jabba the Hutt, having their water taken for not paying a tax. At 8-years-old, Luke decided to sneak into the henchmen's camp and steal the water back.

Obi-Wan went to the boy's location, defeating all of Jabba's henchmen. One of the henchmen gets startled, knocking Luke out by accident. Luke was carried back to his home, with Obi-Wan sensing the future of the Jedi order was in good hands.

6 Fought Against Black Krrsantan

Because of Obi-Wan's actions against Jabba's henchmen, the Skywalker family almost came into danger. Jabba thought it was Owen who beat up the henchmen, deciding to send a bounty hunter after him. The bounty hunter was a Wookie named Black Krrsantan.

Owen was kidnapped by the bounty hunter, but was rescued by a young Luke. Obi-Wan and Krrsantan fought, with Obi-Wan disarming the bounty hunter. The bounty hunter survived the encounter, with Owen casting a glance at Obi-wan in the aftermath.

5 Took Job To Protect Sandcrawler

While flying his skyhopper, Luke crashes it and gets grounded by his uncle. Knowing that Luke could not get in trouble at home, Obi-Wan took a job to defend a sandcrawler from Tusken Raiders. While meditating at night, the Tusken Raiders attacked the sandcrawler.

Obi-Wan quickly defeated the attackers and got his reward from the Jawas. With his payment, he ordered the parts necessary to repair Luke's skyhopper. Luke thought the parts were a gift from his uncle, thanking Owen for the generous gift.

4 Defeated A Dragon

Obi-Wan also helped a Tusken Raider village in a way. A dragon named Krayt was terrorizing a Tusken village, causing the raiders to pillage other areas. Obi-Wan was discovered by the village and taken prisoner, but tried to free the other hostages. This angered the Tusken Raiders, who offered Obi-Wan to Krayt.

Obi-Wan battled the creature and won, but did not kill it. Instead, Krayt was led away from the village. The villagers cheered, but Obi-Wan warned that if they continued to raid, he and the dragon would return. The village then became unique as the only Tusken Raider settlement to not raid or kidnap.

3 Battled Darth Maul (Again)

Maul went on the search for Obi-Wan, finding him after having a vision. Obi-Wan was able to keep Maul from tracking him down, but Maul lured a rebel Padawan. Obi-Wan went to help, being confronted by his old rival. After making fun of Obi-Wan's living conditions, the two fought against each other.

Feeling as though Maul could be a threat to Luke, Obi-Wan decided to fight. Obi-Wan assumed the position of his old master, something that Maul notices quickly. Maul ignited his lightsaber as well, and the battle was on.

2 Killed Darth Maul (For Real This Time)

During the battle, Maul tried to use the same move he used on Qui-Gon. Obi-Wan saw this coming, performing a lethal move on Maul. Before Maul could fall to the ground, Obi-Wan caught Maul and held him. The two rivals talked while Maul was dying.

Maul asked if Obi-Wan was defending the Chosen One, which Obi-Wan said yes to. This comforts the dying Sith, who believes that he and Obi-Wan will be avenged in the future. To honor Maul, Obi-Wan built a funeral pyre for his former rival.

1 Communicated With Qui-Gon

During his exile on Tatooine, Obi-Wan communicated with his former master. The earliest known occurrence is when Obi-Wan experienced visions of his past, causing Qui-Gon to appear as a Force spirit. Qui-Gon convinced Obi-Wan to give up his past attachments.

Another time is when Obi-Wan is defending the sandcrawler. Obi-Wan meditates with Qui-Gon about hope in Luke's abilities. It is because of these communions that Obi-Wan was able to mentor Luke, even after being killed.
