Widely considered by Star Wars fans to be one of the greatest lightsaber duels in the whole franchise, the battle between Obi-Wan and Anakin that was shown at the end of Revenge of the Sith (2005) is one of the most important moments in the Skywalker Saga.

The confrontation is not just spectacular to behold that pits two entirely different combat styles against one another on the backdrop of a dangerous and beautiful planet but is also highly emotional because of the fact that former friends are fighting to the death. Many fan artists have visualized this legendary fight in digital drawings and here are 10 of the very best.

10 Georgie Edmeades

Half-way through their duel, Obi-Wan and Anakin fought on a wire-held platform that was constantly bombarded by the spraying of lava and that is the moment depicted in Geordie Edmeades' stunningly detailed piece. The hatred and new-born evil on Anakin's face is the drawing's finest feature. The only inaccuracy is the fact that Vader is on the defense but that is insignificant compared to the rest of the piece's remarkable qualities.

9 Tommy Lee Edwards

The most devastating part of the battle is at its very end when the newly christened sith has been severely wounded and is getting burned in front of his former master while screaming in pain. Several spectacular details are added by Tommy Lee Edwards - Obi-Wan's red-streaked facial scratches and the collapsed platform on the background. Kenobi's face is not seen in a close-up but even so, his pain and shock are obvious and undeniably heart-wrenching.

8 Immolation

Amino user Dark Granger has posted a terrifying yet masterful piece recreating Skywalker's immolation. Vader is reaching for the lightsaber as the flames are consuming him, which is dramatically quite effective but nonetheless inaccurate.

At that moment from Episode III, Kenobi has already picked up the weapon that he proceeds to give to Luke 19 years later in the original Star Wars (1977).

7 Gofa Chan

Twitter user Gofa Chan, otherwise known as ArtGofa also uses a little bit of creative freedom to boost the impact of his piece. He presents the foes' two duels side by side and Vader is wielding a red lightsaber during the battle on the volcanic planet. The visual parallel between the two shows that not much changed after all that time - Obi-Wan's defense was still impenetrable and Vader had learned nothing from his past mistakes.

6 Darren Tan

In its final stages, the duel between the former Jedi friends moved right over the lava as the two opponents stood on a platform and a droid, which protected them from the deadly surface. Darren Tan's work successfully captures the terrifying beauty of the destruction that the duellists' actions caused and the tireless persistence of the fighters as they continue to parry and attack in a confrontation that looked like it was never going to end.

5 Mistermoster

The beginning of the Mustafar duel between Vader and Kenobi showed Star Wars fans some of the fastest, most intricate and skillful lightsaber-wielding that they have ever seen and the piece of Mistermoster displays the heat of the battle quite successfully.

Through a unique, borderline cartoonish style, involving rich colors, the intense expressions of the characters, their wildly flapping capes and more, the artist recreates the duel's intensity in a single still image.

4 Anakin Attacks

Instagram user Starwarsanalyst has posted this extraordinary representation of the Mustafar battle, which combines a sense of destruction and the fallen Anakin's demonic presence. In the piece, the battle is on a ruined bridge that is melting either because of the searing effects of the lightsabers or because it has been struck by lava. The image's most unforgettable element is Vader's soulless expression - good has been erased from him as he leaps in an attempt to take his master's life.

3 Phase Runner

Phase Runner presents fans with a landscape depiction of the confrontation that is breathtaking to behold. Obi-Wan rightfully has the higher ground and his side of the background is dominated by light as a massive eruption of lava is happening.

Anakin's side is dominated by shadow and darkness as is the majority of the piece and rightfully so - regardless of Obi-Wan's inevitable victory, the Jedi have lost the battle and the galaxy.

2 Matteo Constant

Incredible lighting and exceptional use of color allow the piece of Matteo Constant rank as one of the finest visual representations of the Mustafar duel. The artist depicts Anakin performing a Djem So (Form V) strike against Obi-Wan's trademark Soresu defense. In many ways, this was a battle of the perfect attacker versus the flawless defender and in the end, it was the master's emotional restraint that won him the fight against the wild passions of the spiritually scarred sith.

1 Aquila Audax

There is no question that the greatest fan art piece of the events that took place on Mustafar is the work of Aquilla Audax. Ironically, the moment depicted in his digital drawing never happened and doesn't show the two enemies in the midst of battle. Instead, the artist presents us with a heart-breaking image of Obi-Wan holding his maimed student in his arms. The emotion depicted on their faces is overwhelming, to say the least, particularly on Kenobi's. This piece, more than any other, conveys the pain and loss, which the tragedy of Anakin Skywalker caused.
