Contrary to a recent online rumor, the upcoming Disney+ Star Wars television series starring Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi will not be filming in Boston, Massachusetts. Rather, it will be filming in Boston, England.A recent statement shared by the Film & Television Industry Alliance on productionlist.com revealed that the upcoming Disney+ series is set to shoot in London, England, and Boston, Massachusetts, on Jan. 4, 2021, according to a local CBS affiliate. The Late Show with Stephen Colbert relayed the news in a humorous manner, dropping an opening credits parody on Dec. 4, which combined footage from the Star Wars franchise with a theme song about New England. However, the location has since been updated to Boston, England, with London remaining. Star Wars: Kenobi will find Ewan McGregor reprising his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi. The series is believed to take place between the events Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith and original 1977 Star Wars film. As fans may recall, McGregor-as-Kenobi was last seen traveling to Tatooine to hide the infant Luke Skywalker with Owen and Beru Lars in the former, which released in 2005.

A project summary posted along with the filming locations also reveals that the Kenobi series will take place in Tatooine, which is described as "a harsh desert world where farmers toil in the heat of two suns while trying to protect themselves and their loved ones from the marauding Tusken Raiders. A backwater planet on the edge of civilized space. And an unlikely place to find a Jedi Master in hiding, or an orphaned infant boy on whose tiny shoulders rests the future of a galaxy."

Directed by Deborah Chow and starring Ewan McGregor, the Obi-Wan Kenobi series is currently in development for Disney+ and has yet to receive a premiere date or official title. The series will begin production in the United Kingdom in March 2021.
