The Clone Wars were among the most epic and game-changing conflicts in the history of Star Wars, so it is only natural that they produced some of the galaxy's best warriors. At a glance, The Grand Army of the Republic, composed of clones of the bounty hunter Jango Fett, appears made up of identical soldiers.

While all of them had the same origin, many of them went down different and unique paths. At the end of their journeys, a select few of these elite clone troopers grew into legends through their accomplishments and stunning range of abilities.

Updated by Jordan Iacobucci on April 9, 2024: Star Wars: The Bad Batch continues the legacy that The Clone Wars left behind, telling the story of the clone troopers' fate after Order 66 and the Great Jedi Purge. The series introduces several well-trained clones who live up to and even surpass the skills of their DNA template, Jango Fett.

The Star Wars franchise is filled with excellent voice-acted work, ranging from film, to TV, and gaming.

Gregor is an unusual case among the other clone troopers. He is first seen in "Missing in Action," an episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, in which he is discovered on a desert planet without any memories of his time as a clone trooper. While he cannot remember his training, Gregor's instinct kicks in, helping him fend off a group of Separatists in order to help a deployment of Republic droids accomplish their mission.

Gregor reappears after Order 66 as a part of Captain Rex's legion of clones who rebelled against the Empire. He and his allies eventually join the Rebellion, a cause for which he dies during the events of Star Wars: Rebels. Although Gregor didn't have the chance to fight as often as his clone brothers, he was always helpful in a battle until his dying day.

19 Waxer Is A Kindhearted Clone Trooper

First Appearance: Star Wars: The Clone Wars - "Innocents Of Ryloth"

Waxer with his helmet off in Star Wars The Clone Wars

Waxer was a member of the 212th Batallion, otherwise known as Ghost Company, under Obi-Wan Kenobi during the Clone Wars. He and his good friend, Boil, are introduced during the Battle of Ryloth, in which they rescue a young Twi'lek girl after her home is ransacked by Separatist forces.

Waxer is best known for his tender heart, but he also has the combat skills to back up his good-natured ways. He and his brothers managed to hold their own during the Battle of Umbara, which was one of the most intense and bloody conflicts in the entire war, only to die when the clones were betrayed by the villainous Jedi General Pong Krell.

18 Boil Is Waxer's By-The-Book Friend

First Appearance: Star Wars: The Clone Wars - "Innocents Of Ryloth"

Boil looks to the side in Star Wars The Clone Wars

Like his companion Waxer, Boil fought alongside Jedi General Obi-Wan Kenobi during the Clone Wars. While Waxer was known for his kind heart, Boil was more hesitant to lower his guard. Even so, he proved to be a kind man, helping the innocents of Ryloth when their planet was invaded by the villainous Separatists.

Not much is known about Boil's adventures during the Clone Wars, but he did fight in the Battle of Ryloth and the Second Battle of Geonosis, both of which were major conflicts in determining the fate of the galaxy. Boil's fate after the Clone Wars remains unknown, but it would seem that he outlived Waxer and possibly survived the events of Revenge of the Sith.

The Bad Batch Explains One of the Empire’s Biggest Crimes Against Clones
The Empire has done terrible things to the Bad Batch and all Clones, yet nothing may be worse than the Clone X Program.

Jesse was a member of the 501st Legion who fought under the command of Jedi General Anakin Skywalker during the Clone Wars. He is eventually promoted to the level of ARC-Trooper, working closely beside Captain Rex until the final days of the war, when he led the charge against Ahsoka Tano after receiving Order 66.

Jesse was truly one of the best clones to ever fight in the war. He proved his mettle during the Battle of Umbara and the Siege of Mandalore, showing just how skilled a fighter he was. Unfortunately, his skills were squandered when he, like so many other clones, was used as a pawn to eliminate the Jedi. Unfortunately for Jesse, he was killed in the fallout of Order 66, along with the rest of his allies.

16 Wolffe (CC-3636) Leads The Fearsome Wolf Pack

First Appearance: Star Wars: The Clone Wars - "Rising Malevolence"

Wolffe served as the commander of the 104th Battalion in Star Wars: The Clone Wars under the leadership of Jedi Master Plo Koon. Under his command, Wolffe's Battalion became famous among the Grand Army of the Republic, who nicknamed the team "The Wolf Pack." As the Clone Wars waged on, Wolf and his pack proved to be one of the most effective squadrons at the Republic's disposal.

Although Wolffe's greatest military victories came during the Clone Wars, his career lasted far beyond the close of his premiere conflict. In fact, Wolffe later joined the Rebellion against the Empire, lending his expertise to the cause. He remains one of the very few clone commanders who ended up on the right side of history, helping topple the tyrannical Empire and save the galaxy.

15 Hunter Is A Well-Trained Leader

First Appearance: Star Wars: The Clone Wars — "The Bad Batch"

Hunter was the leader of Squad-99 (nicknamed the “Bad Batch”), which comprised clones who all had genetic abnormalities that set them apart from their comrades. Another way Hunter differed from other clones was that he had no formal numerical designation.

What Hunter did have were enhanced senses so sensitive that he could feel the electromagnetic frequencies from a droid command center across half a planet. The other thing that made Hunter stand out compared to the rest of the Bad Batch was his natural leadership skills and strategic thinking. His team saw the worst conflicts of the Clone Wars, and Hunter led them safely through dangerous missions time and again.

14 Fives (CT-5555 Or ARC-5555) Is A Dangerous ARC-Trooper

First Appearance: Star Wars: The Clone Wars "Rookies"

Fives from Star Wars The clone wars

One of the members of Domino Squad, Fives would outlive all of his fellow teammates except for Echo. Like Echo, Fives went on to become an ARC Trooper as the Clone Wars progressed. The members of Domino Squad were initially viewed as rejects during their early training.

Domino Squad soon advanced to become some of the most respected clone troopers to serve in the Clone Wars, joining the 501st Legion. Fives actually uncovered the conspiracy around the bio-chips implanted in each clone that would later be activated to execute Order 66. Fives tried to reveal the truth about his discovery, but he was assassinated to ensure the Jedi never learned about Order 66 until it was too late.

13 Echo (CT-1409) Fought With The 501st And The Bad Batch

First Appearance: Star Wars: The Clone Wars "Rookies"

Echo salutes with his prosthetic hand in Star Wars: The Bad Batch

Like Fives, Echo was a member of Domino Squad who eventually joined up with the elite 501st Legion. He quickly rose through the ranks, eventually becoming one of the legion’s leading officers and an ARC Trooper. Working with Captain Rex, Echo helped design some of the Grand Army of the Republic's most effective strategies.

Echo and Fives also helped repel the droid assault on Kamino. After an explosion appeared to have killed Echo, he was taken prisoner by the Separatists. They subjected him to terrible experiments to extract the strategic algorithms he and Rex had made, using the Republic’s own tactics against them. After being rescued, Echo joined Squad-99.

12 Wrecker Is Especially Strong

First Appearance: Star Wars: The Clone Wars — "The Bad Batch"

During the Clone Wars, a number of troopers demonstrated exceptional physical prowess, favoring heavy weapons and excelling at close-quarters combat. None were nearly as strong as Wrecker. While fighting in the Battle of Anaxes, he lifted a LAAT gunship that had crashed over his head (despite the ship being capable of transporting thirty people).

Wrecker's temper often caused trouble. He had a difficult time sticking to a plan, especially on stealth missions, and he was known to lash out at other clone troopers. However, there were few clones as effective in a fight as him. When it comes to physicality, Wrecker is clearly the most dangerous clone in the entire Grand Army of the Republic, far exceeding the strength of his brothers.

11 Tech Is Especially Good With Technology

First Appearance: Star Wars: The Clone Wars — "The Bad Batch"

Tech stands in front of clone troopers in Star Wars: The Bad Batch

Of everyone in "Bad Batch" Squad-99, Tech was by far the least physically intimidating. He was also the smartest and the most compassionate of the group. As Tech's name suggests, he was skilled at using technology, which he used to help his squad escape several sticky situations.

Tech was also a talented battlefield tactician, capable of thinking on his feet in a fight and doing advanced calculations while under heavy fire. An expert at mapping exact trajectories, he ensured every grenade his teammates threw and blaster shot they fired did maximum damage. He faithfully served his squad until his death on Eriadu.

The Bad Batch Season 3 kept the Star Wars clones apart, but the brotherhood is reunited fighting the same battle for the first time since the war.

A commander to be looked up to and respected, Fox displayed unwavering fearlessness while participating in many dangerous missions and leading his very own squad of shocktroopers. Fox was a highly decorated soldier who leaped into danger without question and became a role model for all clones around him.

While accepting certain morally ambiguous missions, such as agreeing to assassinate Ahsoka Tano and his comrade Fives, Fox was not a bad trooper. Rather, these served as proof of Fox's absolute devotion to his superiors.

9 Fordo (ARC-77) Has A Wide Arsenal

First Appearance: Star Wars: Clone Wars — "Chapter 2"

An image of Star Wars clone trooper, Fordo, with his duel blasters drawn.

The leader of the Muunilinst 10, a squad of elite ARC troopers, Fordo held a vital role in the conquering of Muunilinst and the capture of the city's commander San Hill during a siege led by Obi-Wan Kenobi. He also participated in a successful rescue mission against General Grievous and fought on the ground during the Battle of Coruscant.

ARC-77 fought with two blasters, and as a commander, he had access to all kinds of radar, melee, and stealth gadgets. Fordo's skill set allowed him to assault multiple enemies simultaneously in close combat and at a distance.

On Star Wars: The Bad Batch, Clone Force 99 isn't working with Rex and Echo to save all the clone troopers, and Episodes 6 and 7 reveal why that is.

Sev was the deadliest and most savage of Republic Commando's Delta Squad and was the team's ultimate weapon of destruction until the moment he fell on Kashyyyk. All kinds of foes fell to his wrath, from Super Battle Droids to A-DSD Advanced Dwarf Spider Droids and MagnaGuards.

Sev was extremely adept at taking out enemies with his sniper rifle, and he was unmatched in hand-to-hand combat. He was also fond of utilizing his Commando equipment to its full effect, especially the knuckle-plate Vibroblade.

7 Boss (Delta-38 Or RC-1138) Leads Delta Squad

First Appearance: Star Wars: The Clone Wars — "Witches of the Mist"

An image of clone trooper Boss bent over a table as he thinks in Star Wars

The story of the leader of Delta Squad, Boss, goes beyond the Clone Wars. He and the survivors of his team — Scorch and Fixer — went on to be integrated into Darth Vader's Fist, the terrifying 501st Legion that had once been one of the best-known and most feared armies in the Grand Army of the Republic.

From then on, Boss and his crew took part in many missions to hunt down clones who had deserted their ranks, Jedi living in hiding, and all opponents of the Empire. Boss was the most gifted and intelligent member of the Delta team, as well as their best strategist, and received command over his brothers for obvious reasons.

6 Cody (CC-2224) Kept Up With Obi-Wan Kenobi

First Appearance: Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith

An image of clone trooper Cody checking his surroundings in Star Wars

Serving closely under none other than the legendary Obi-Wan Kenobi (up until betraying him in Revenge of the Sith), Cody stood out as a commander who led the 212th Attack Battalion. He placed a special emphasis on discipline, and he virtually never failed a mission due to his excellent strategies.

The quality that Cody was best known for, however, was his unflinching loyalty — loyalty that ultimately proved to be pledged to Darth Sidious. Cody preferred to fight with the heavier but more powerful DC-15A blaster rifle. Cody's heroism is also one quality that elevates him above even some of his more dangerous brothers-in-arms. Although he did go through with Order 66, Cody eventually came to see the Empire for what it was and defected.

5 Alpha (ARC-17) Is An Underrated ARC-Trooper

First Appearance: Star Wars: Republic #50 by John Ostrander, W. Haden Blackman, Scott Allie, Jan Duursema, Stephen Thompson, Tomás Giorello, Dan Parsons, Ray Kryssing, Digital Chameleon, and Brad Anderson

An image of Alpha making a battle plan in Star Wars comics

Alpha served not just Obi-Wan Kenobi but also his apprentice, Anakin Skywalker. In the early stages of the Clone Wars, he battled the powerful Gen'Dai Durge, defeating him. Later, Asajj Ventress captured and tortured Alpha before his timely rescue.

Alpha's bravery and skills earned him Skywalker's utmost admiration. ARC-17 went on to create an academy for clone officers, which inspired the idea of having different sub-divisions of clone troops. A deadly sharpshooter, Alpha trained some of the greatest clones in history — Rex and Cody among them.

Ordo's upgraded memory allowed him to recall details with perfect precision. Null-11 had also undergone various forms of training, including assassination, blaster rifles, and swordsmanship. Ordo kept his good name even after Order 66 when he deserted.

3 Rex (CT-7567) Is A War Hero

First Appearance: Star Wars: The Clone Wars (Film)

Captain Rex lived the life of a true hero. He was a legend among all clone troopers, a loyal friend to Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano, and a leader of multiple elite squads during both the Clone Wars and the Galactic Civil War.

Even after the ascension of the Empire, Rex evaded the treasonous orders of Emperor Palpatine and continued to support the Jedi cause, eventually participating in Return of the Jedi's crucial Battle of Endor. Beyond this remarkable resume, Rex was also in possession of astounding leadership, knowledge of robotics, and piloting skills.

2 X1 Is Cloned From A Jedi Knight

First Appearance: Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron

An image of X1 from Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron

Cloned from a Jedi Knight, the Force-sensitive X1's fate was closely linked with that of his similarly gifted brother, X2. Both of them fought as clone troopers in countless battles, trained numerous clones, and killed Jedi following Order 66.

During the Empire's rise, X1 grew stronger in the dark side of the Force, especially after murdering the very Jedi he was cloned from. X1 continued to fight on the side of the Empire until his eventual demise. Apart from excellent close and ranged combat and pilot skills, X1 could use telekinesis and Force Lightning.

1 X2 Is A Powerful Force-Sensitive Clone

First Appearance: Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron

An image of X2 from Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron

X1's brother X2 betrayed the Empire and fought on the side of the Rebellion, ultimately facing his sibling in battle and defeating him. X2 lived to see the demise of the Emperor and to be Luke Skywalker's personal apprentice.

The Jedi Master's guidance allowed the clone to advance in his Force skills until the point when X2 was ready to engage his evil brother in a lightsaber duel, eventually emerging triumphant. X2 could put to good use all kinds of weapons, from blasters and rifles to rocket launchers. Additionally, X2 was a skilled pilot, engineer, and hacker. However, it was his Force ability that made X2 the undisputed most powerful clone in the entire Star Wars franchise.
