The Star Wars: The High Republic initiative will explore a new era of the Star Wars universe, with a particular focus on when the Jedi Knights were at the height of their power. Several new characters and details about The High Republic have officially been revealed.
A new Jedi Master named Sskeer was revealed on the official Star Wars website. Sskeer is a massive Trandoshan Jedi described as "loyal, but brutally honest" by writer Cavan Scott.
“He’s a gruff, opinionated Trandoshan who has been around the block more times than he cares to remember," Scott said. "This is a Jedi Master with a secret that is tearing him apart.” Alongside Sskeer, another look at Jedi Master Avan Kress was shown. The two are wearing robes and armor that have a very Arthurian look to them.
Another secretive force in The High Republic era is the San Tekkas, a family of hard-scrabble hyperspace prospectors who were seeking resources in the far reaches of the galaxy. Writer Charles Soule describes the San Tekka clan as a technological dynasty, who seek to help with the Great Disaster that opens the story.
"But the San Tekkas have a secret…their rise did not come without cost," Soule said in conclusion. The name San Tekka may be familiar to Star Wars fans; the late Max Von Sydow portrayed Lor San Tekka in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Star Wars: The High Republic will debut in January 2021 with Star Wars: The High Republic-Light of the Jedi.
