There is no denying that the Disney fandom, as a whole, is incredibly strong. Disney itself has grown so much as a company over the past 12 years alone that it now also encompasses several other fandoms as well. In 2006, when Disney acquired Pixar, that only opened the floodgate for the crossover of fandoms. That flood has been pretty much in full force since then and, honestly, will continue for the foreseeable future. Two major acquisitions set the Disney fandom — and the original fandoms for these two enterprises—abuzz. These were the acquisition of Marvel Studios in 2009 and of LucasFilm in 2012. There was a lot of speculation as to what “Disney-ifying” these two franchises would do to the integrity of their films.

To be honest, there were a fair amount of changes that were implemented to fit these two franchises a little more to the Disney brand. There is still a good amount of debate on whether or not this was a good idea. Nevertheless, the addition of these two enterprises has been a major part of a lot of change in the Disney fandoms. A lot of that change was good and growth-oriented and a lot of it resulted in the creation of an even more solid fan base, though not all of it did. While there are plenty of people who are a part of both fandoms, that doesn’t always stop them from poking fun at each other. In fact, here are 20 memes that prove just how real that rivalry is.

20 DEEPEST SECRETS

This can honestly be described as a perfect storm of a meme. This was a moment of heartbreak in The Force Awakens, as Rey calls out Kylo Ren on his biggest fear. Having devoted his life to carrying on his grandfather’s legacy, this fear truly does paralyze him.

In contrast to the serious and somber tone of the first half, this second part of the meme is built from a humorous scene in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. This scene is the pure antithesis to the one in Star Wars and that is a contributing factor to the balance of this meme. It may also be the stark difference between these two “deepest secrets” that causes this meme to be particularly savage.

19 ALL THE KIDS

Thanos is undeniably a bad person. He is a great villain, but in order to do what he did to both of his own daughters, there’s a certain level of inhumanity that just has to come into play. Wanting to wipe out half the universe just like that might earn him the title of Most Evil Person in some people’s eyes.

That is, until this comparison is presented. While the obvious good guy answer would be to build more chairs, between these two bad guys and their answers, it is obvious that Anakin beats Thanos on levels of sheer awfulness.

18 GET THIS MAN A SEAT

The way these two scenes fall together so perfectly is beautiful. In Avengers: Infinity War, T’challa, aka Black Panther, is welcoming Captain America back into the Avengers in Wakanda and it is truly a powerful reunion. The composition of images from Star Wars is an impactful choice as well because, in the beginning of the Saga, Anakin was driven by many of the same values.

It makes one wonder, just what might have happened if he had received the rank of Master on the Jedi council. Would he have dealt better with the anger he experienced at the loss of his loved ones? Would everything have turned out differently?

17 SKYWALKER OR KENOBI

With the number of voice messages that Peter Parker left for Happy Hogan in Spider Man: Homecoming, it’s pretty obvious that he never had a problem just calling them up whenever he had something to report or a question to ask.

Since the reason Ned finds out about his alternate identity is because they were going to build a Lego Death Star, it is also safe to assume that he’s a fan of Star Wars. It’s not too far out of the realm of possibility for him to have actually left a voice message like this, and if he did, at least the question that’s haunted fans since they met Rey would be answered.

16 MADE UP NAMES

Ever since the trailer for Avengers: Infinity War was released where Peter meets Doctor Strange, different versions of this meme have been everywhere on the internet. Poor Doctor Strange must get so sick of having to explain that he’s the only superhero in the MCU who uses his real name.

However, the compilation of this specific meme highlights just how outlandish Senator Palpatine’s claim truly was. Peter is right in this one. Claiming that he, as an individual, is the senate — which is, by definition, a group of people — is about as made up as it can get.

15 NO IDEA WHAT IS POSSIBLE

The Star Wars franchise made its debut 41 years ago with A New Hope. It has had a solid fan base the entire time. In the ten year gap between Revenge of the Sith and The Force Awakens, that fan base had actually spanned more than one generation.

Many of the original fans of the series had children by the time Revenge of the Sith came out, and many of those children are of the age now where they are starting their own families. To see a relatively new cinematic franchise beat it out in the box office truly defies explanation.

14 STEP ASIDE

This meme got its heart broken by the previous one. These last couple of years have been very superhero focused as far as cinema has been concerned, with incredible amounts of Marvel and DC movies. Due to the multi-generational fan base of the Star Wars franchise that was just mentioned, it was expected that The Last Jedi would be the top grossing film.

As this meme demonstrates, most of the Star Wars fan base expected to honestly blow the other two franchises out of the water. While it is undeniable that it did very, very well, it did fall just short of hitting that mark.

13 JEDI MIND TRICKS

While it is arguable whether or not Thanos would be susceptible to Jedi mind tricks, the root of this meme goes much deeper than just susceptibility. First of all, Star Wars is canonically set a “long time ago in a galaxy far, far away." The scrolling prologue of The Phantom Menace even attests to that.

This means that by having Obi-Wan Kenobi and Thanos at the same pub, the MCU’s biggest current villain is able to travel between both time and space. More importantly, however, this meme is playing with the idea that Jedi mind tricks are kind of a cop-out solution to a problem. Obviously, they don’t work on everyone, but mind control is a pretty convenient way to get out of a mess!

12 SAMUEL L. JACKSON

There is no shortage of actors who have starred in roles for both the Star Wars and Marvel franchises. In fact, just a few months ago we put up a list of “15 Actors You Completely Forgot Were in Both Star Wars and Marvel Movies,” which you can check out here.

One of these actors that’s nearly impossible to forget in either role, however, is legendary Samuel L. Jackson. He was unforgettable in his role as Jedi Master Mace Windu and is iconic as Nick Fury. The creator of this meme, by taking a line spoken by Fury and directing it to Master Windu, struck internet gold.

11 NOT THAT OLD

The entire Star Wars fandom mourned the loss of Carrie Fisher in 2016. However, it was an honor to have her as the Princess and General for 40 years. The classic sass and no-nonsense attitude of both Princess Leia and Han Solo are apparent in this meme. For these two, having The Empire Strikes Back premier in 1980 is sure to not feel like that long ago.

However, it does have to be acknowledged that for a high schooler who is at most 18 years old, the 38 year gap is bound to seem much more drastic. There’s always a dissonance between how old something feels that happened in one’s own lifetime verses something that happened before.

10 THAT'S HIS SECRET

Bruce Banner looking at Captain America and telling him “That’s my secret, Cap. I’m always angry” before going literal beast mode and kicking some alien butt was an epic moment. Taking this iconic scene and turning into a meme about having the high ground, however, is arguably equally brilliant.

The serious tone of the original scene is replaced by the humorous mental image of Obi-Wan always having the literal high ground. As he is about to take off to face their formidable foe, it must be acknowledged that perhaps the juxtaposition of the serious and the humorous in many of these memes is what makes them so effective.

9 GOOD GUYS VS. BAD GUYS

There is a lot of research that has been done on the psychology of color symbolism and association. This meme highlights just how that very phenomenon can be used very differently across media. With Star Wars, every fan knows that the red lightsabers are used only by the evil Sith. The green ones, however, are exclusively used by the Jedi good guys.

Well if green means good and red means bad, where does that leave everyone in regards to Loki and Thor? Obviously, Thor is the hero and the good guy. However, if fans of both still hold the association with the color green and the ones who save the day, maybe that explains one of the reasons Loki is such a fan favorite.

8 GHOST

When Thor is forced into gladiator style battles in Thor: Ragnarok, the MCU introduces several other colorful characters. One of these characters is Korg, the likable and hilarious rock creature who also fights in these battles. When Loki’s “hologram” appears to speak to Thor, Korg’s humorous reaction to the “ghost” is portrayed by Kylo Ren in this meme.

It is no secret that Kylo Ren is on the outs with his mentor and uncle Luke Skywalker. In fact, putting it so mildly is probably an understatement. The pure rage he must have felt when he realized Luke was a hologram to protect the Rebellion is nicely translated here as he kicks Luke’s force ghost.

7 GENERAL KENOBI

General Grievous was an interesting villain for more than just his military strategy and ruthlessness. The scene used as the basis of this meme is arguably the most iconic scene of his. It has also been reported that his many arms in addition to his sunken eyes may have terrified a few Star Wars fans when they were younger!

Robots and wizards are both incredibly cool to most people. This depiction of Doctor Steven Strange, though, with more arms than the cyborg General is somehow more entertaining than frightening. Maybe it’s just the hilarity of the unexpected? Regardless, this meme is sure to make you laugh.

6 NATALIE PORTMAN

Natalie Portman is another example of an actress who starred in both Star Wars and Marvel films. It is readily apparent that she is another character who is not likely to be forgotten. The previous meme involving Samuel L Jackson was a direct transition of dialogue from one onto images of the other. This one, however, takes an entirely different approach.

Every aspect of this meme was created to mock the robotic hand of Anakin Skywalker, and his later his robotic body as Darth Vader after his fight with with Obi-Wan. From the text itself to the slightly mocking expression on her face in the last frame, this meme is all kinds of savage.

5 HE'S NOT YOUR DADDY

Yandu is the self-proclaimed Mary Poppins of the Marvel universe. As such, he also takes on a protective role in Star Lord’s life. When he learns the truth of his biological father, Yandu reminds him “he may be your father, but he ain’t your daddy.” This reminder of what family really means would have been important for Luke as well.

Finding out the man you blamed for the death of your parents is, in fact, your father must be a doozy. This meme is meant as a jest to Yandu’s proclaiming he’s Star Lord’s dad, though he was not his father. Nevertheless, it is a beautiful sentiment and probably would have been helpful for Luke in that moment.

4 DISTRACTING

Star Lord’s sass is a defining part of his character, and there might not be any line that embodies that more than this one. Calling one of the head henchmen of an overlord bent on destroying half the universe a “big turd blossom” is completely on brand for him.

To be completely honest, it doesn’t seem super off brand for adult Luke Skywalker either. Each of these men are devoted to helping their friends gain the upper hand. Because of this, they both turn to what they do best. Distracting is second nature to the both of them, and they do it well.

3 ARMY, HULK, HIGH GROUND

This is another example of a meme that has so many versions floating around the internet it’s almost ridiculous. There is no denying that Hulk was an invaluable asset to defeating Loki’s army of alien monsters. With Loki and Tony Stark both listing their greatest assets in battle, Obi-Wan decides to join in on the fun.

It is true that the high ground he had over Anakin, both literal in the volcano and figurative in terms of morals, was what helped him win that fight. It does beg the question, though, of just how effective literal or figurative high ground would be against an alien army and a hulk.

2 C-3PO'S ARM

Rocket the Racoon is infamous for his fascination with mechanical limbs. He also has a tendency to want to steal these limbs. What he does with them is still an unanswered question, and maybe it’s better that way. An explanation for C-3PO appearing with a red arm instead of his normal gold one is given in a Marvel comic Star Wars: C-3PO.

However, this explanation with Rocket’s kleptomaniac tendencies being to blame is not completely unrealistic. There is the issue of the space-time difference, but if Thanos can be in the same pub as Obi-Wan, then Rocket probably has the ability to steal C-3PO’s arm.

1 COMPLETE

The loss of Mjolnir was quite the shock for the entire Marvel fandom in Thor: Ragnarok. Of course, Thor’s power was solely due to his hammer. It was an iconic part of his brand, though, and fans weren’t sure what to think when Hela destroyed it.

The process through which he forged his new axe was entirely epic, from the teamwork involved to the actual forge itself. Darth Vader is obviously mocking the OP strength of these objects in the meme, and while he might not be wrong, he’s not completely right either. Though his skill set may not have been truly completed by this new addition, it definitely didn’t hurt.
