Mark Hamill shared that he supports casting a younger actor for the role of Luke Skywalker for future Star Wars projects.

In a recent interview with Esquire, Hamill explained that, after The Last Jedi, he did not expect to make any more appearances as the blue-eyed farm-boy-turned-hero. However, he was convinced when he watched The Mandalorian, noting that he "was very impressed with it." Hamill has appeared, to great audience appreciation, as his younger self in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett thanks to de-aging technology, AI voice simulation, and look-alike actor Graham Hamilton. As fans clamored for more such appearances, the actor said that the process was "unusual" and expensive. "People say, 'Oh, now you're going to be able to do a whole series of Luke post-Return of the Jedi.' I said, 'I don't think so.' First of all, they don't need to tell those stories, but if they do, they could get an age-appropriate actor." Fans have suggested that Sebastian Stan, Grant Gustin, or Dave Franco among others could play the role.

Outside the Star Wars universe, Hamill has had a meaningful range of roles from voice acting as Lord Ozai in Avatar: The Last Airbender, and the Joker in Batman: The Animated Series. His latest movie, the action comedy The Machine, sees him playing the role of a father. Hamill is also all set to star in an adaptation of Stephen King’s Life of Chuck with Tom Hiddleston.

Could Luke Skywalker Return?

Hamill didn't confirm or deny rumors that he may return, as a Force Ghost at least, in a planned Disney film that follows Rey’s attempt to rebuild the Jedi Order. The movie, one of three major projects Lucasfilm the offing, takes place 15 years after The Rise of the Skywalker. "One thing you learn working for Lucasfilm: everything is confidential. [...] So, if I were involved, I wouldn't be able to tell you. And if I were not involved, I wouldn't be able to tell you," Hamill said.

While Hamill believes that Luke Skywalker’s story has been told, fans of the extensive canon and lore that the Star Wars universe has accumulated believe there could be even more adventures. Several fans believe he could return for the Ahsoka series having worked with Anakin Skywalker's padawan to train the young Grogu. At the time of writing, Disney has no official plans to bring back Luke.
