Despite his small role, Mark Hamill did more during the production of Star Wars: The Force Awakens than fans realize. In the movie, Hamill, who has played Luke Skywalker since 1977, returned for a brief cameo at the film's conclusion. The scene itself is relatively short, prompted by Rey's search for the Jedi legend in the face of First Order. While Hamill did not have any lines in the scene, a recent tweet from the actor reveals that he was involved plenty with the script -- just not as Luke Skywalker.RELATED: The Force Awakens: Why Leia Hugs Rey After Han's Death Instead of Chewbacca

The actor specified that director JJ Abrams had him read the entirety of the script aloud -- acting as the script reading's narrator. Hamill may not have had any lines in it as Luke, but the actor did still have cameo voice lines throughout The Force Awakens.

Of course, Luke played a more prominent role in the movie's sequel, The Last Jedi, and Hamill's overall commitment to the franchise is notable. While Hamill might not be returning to Star Wars, his impact on the franchise remains unquestioned.

Hamill's last outing as Luke was in 2020's Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Directed and co-written by J.J. Abrams, The Rise of Skywalker also stars Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong'o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, Billie Lourd, Keri Russell, Anthony Daniels, Billy Dee Williams and Carrie Fisher, with Naomi Ackie and Richard E. Grant. The film is now available on Digital HD, Blu-ray and 4K UHD.
