Walt Disney CEO Bob Iger promised on Tuesday that we will see more of The Mandalorian beyond the upcoming second season, but he fell short of confirming that there would be a third season of the hit Disney+ streaming series. Iger held an earnings call with investors on Tuesday, which was the first such call since the debut of the Disney+ streaming service last November and so naturally, much of the call was discussing Disney+ and the service's biggest original series, Star Wars: The Mandalorian.RELATED: The Mandalorian: Disney+ Considering Spinoffs Based on Show’s CharactersIger had been stressing in interviews leading up to the call and within the call itself that the company is not looking to make Disney+ a volume service. In other words, Disney is concentrating more on making quality programming instead of flooding the market with Star Wars and Disney material. Iger celebrated the fact that roughly 65% of Mandalorian viewers watched at least ten other shows/movies on Disney+, highlighting Disney's belief that quality programming will draw in viewers who will stick around for the other content on the service. The announcement of Mandalorian's Season 2 debuting in October 2020 was a big part of the call, but Iger did not just stop there with news regarding the future of the keystone Disney+ property, which features the breakout character of "The Child" (otherwise known as "Baby Yoda"). RELATED: Star Wars: The Mandalorian Season 2 Release Month ConfirmedThere was talk about possible spin-offs to expand the Mandalorian universe, but most importantly, Iger confirmed that there will be more Mandalorian beyond Season 2.

However, it is important to note that Iger did not elaborate on that comment. An interesting aspect about earning calls is that they are initially quite scripted and that was the case with Iger, as well, with the main aspect of the call being to highlight the success of Disney+ subscriptions and Disney beating their own initial revenue estimates. However, as the call goes on, there is typically more off-the-cuff remarks and that is where Iger's comments regarding Mandalorian's future came in.

We do not know if Iger was referring to a third season (or more) of the Mandalorian's own series or perhaps the Mandalorian appearing in one of the spinoffs that were discussed. It is logical to think that such a popular series will continue past Season 2, but Iger's comments fell short of confirming that to be the case.

Created by Jon Favreau, The Mandalorian stars Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano, Carl Weathers, Giancarlo Esposito and Emily Swallow. Season 1 is available now on Disney+ and Season 2 arrives in October.
