Fans love seeing the mythos of Star Wars extended far beyond the nine movie Skywalker Saga. Jon Favreau and company has been at the forefront of pushing the property back into the limelight after some lackluster entries. When the first episode of The Mandalorian ended last year, fans were immediately in love with The Child and wanted to know everything about him.

While the second season of The Mandalorian just ended, 2020 has felt like the longest year ever. This season was full of surprises and twists. There were lots of new faces, some old faces, and even some younger faces that fans did not expect. Who can keep track of all the goodies that Mando had this year?

10 Cobb Vanth Has Boba Fett's Armor

Timothy Olyphant as Cobb Vanth in The Mandalorian

Originally a character from the Star Wars novel Aftermath, here is the first live-action appearance by the character Cobb Vanth portrayed by the ever-charming Timothy Olyphant. After some questioning, he tells the story of how he ran across some Jawas and was able to trade them for his armor which he now uses as the sheriff to protect his little village.

Mando wants to take the armor back but is talked into helping Cobb kill a local Krayt Dragon. After teaming up with some Tusken Raiders they defeat the dragon. Now that the peace has been brokered between the village and the raiders, Mando leaves with the armor only for it to be shown that he is being watched.

9 Boba Fett Is Alive

In the original trilogy films, a little character that didn't do much called Boba Fett became insanely popular. Sadly when he showed up in Return Of The Jedi he didn't last long. Falling into the Sarlacc Pit it was thought he had been digested for a thousand years just as C3PO had told us he would be.

There have been novels and comics that have showed that Boba Fett may have survived, but he had never shown up in any of the movies or series again. Here it's revealed that not only had he survived but that he was longing to be reunited with his lost armor. In the handful of episodes he shows up in, Boba shows everyone that he indeed was worthy of the fan adulation that had been lauded upon him for decades.

8 Bo-Katan Kryze

the mandalorian and bo-katan

First appearing on The Clone Wars animated series, Bo-Katan makes her live-action debut in the third episode of the second season. One of the great things that help to keep the character in line with her animated series counterpart is that they brought in Katee Sackhoff who voiced the character on the show to play her.

While Mando is looking for another Mandalorian to point him in the direction of a Jedi to deliver The Child to, he runs into Bo-Katan and her crew. They draw him into a plot to steal a shipment of weapons to help her take back the planet of Mandalore.

7 Ahsoka Tano Makes A Return

Star Wars Ahsoka Tano Luke Skywalker

Bo-Katan points Mando in the direction of a Jedi who might be able to help him and it just happens to be her co-star from The Clone Wars series Ahsoka Tano. This live-action version is played by the always awesome Rosario Dawson. Turns out this episode also works as a pilot for an upcoming live-action series starring the character.

Mando seeks her out but finds instead a stronghold that has been under attack by a Jedi. They hire him to hunt her down. After running into Ahsoka, they have a back and forth before she gets some time with The Child. They help each other out with their current situation before Mando is off on his way again.

6 The Child's Name Is Grogu

grogu

One of the things that Ahsoka sets straight for Mando is that The Child has a name. While he doesn't speak even though he is over 50 years old, it seems that using The Force to communicate with Ahsoka makes him quite the chatterbox. She takes a moment to clue Mando in that his actual name is Grogu.

The other thing that becomes quite apparent is that while Mando is seeking out a Jedi to take Grogu and complete his training, Grogu doesn't want to leave. When she tries to test his skills he refuses to participate until Mando steps in and works with him. The bond between them has become very strong.

5 The Dark Troopers Are Terrifying

While fans have seen the human Death Troopers in Rogue One and even with Moff Gideon at the end of Season 1, they see their droid counterparts this season and they are terrifying. When Mando and Grogu visit an ancient Jedi site they are sent to seize the child while Mando is being distracted with Storm Troopers.

In the last episode of the season, they really get to shine as Mando and company infiltrate Moff Gideon's ship. They are activated, and before Mando can send them out the airlock, one of them gets through. In shades of Terminator, it stalks him through the hallway. Later all the ones who were sent out into space return and threaten to end the characters for good.

4 Razor Crest Destroyed

Razor Crest Destroyed

One of the things that Star Wars is good at is getting fans invested in their space ships. Han Solo? The next thing that comes to mind has to be the Millenium Falcon. X-Wings. Tie Fighters. They definitely have the coolest ships. While the Razor Crest wasn't on the level of the Falcon it was still directly tied into Mando and his journey.

At the end of episode 6, it was sad to see that Moff Gideon was able to destroy the Razor Crest. As Mando sifts through the wreckage the only thing that stands out is the knob from the lever that Grogu used to play with. Looks like Mando will be finding a new ride before season 3.

3 Mayfield Returns

Din Djarin and Miggs Mayfeld infiltrating an Imperial base in The Mandalorian

One of the standout side characters from last season was Bill Burr's Mayfield. When the crew needs to break into an Imperial base to use a terminal that will tell them where to find Gideon's ship, they know one of the people they need is Mayfield. Getting him out of prison is easy but getting into the base proves harder.

They hijack a shipment of Rhydonium to get access to the refinery. The problem is that Rhydonium is very unstable. What ensues is like a Star Wars version of the movie Sorcerer. After getting into the base, they access the terminal only to get sidelined with Mayfield's old commanding officer. Working out some pent-up issues, they escape and Mayfield is left free to venture into the universe.

2 Luke Skywalker Arrives

Luke Skywalker Grogu

Ahsoka told Mando to take Grogu to an ancient Jedi site and sit the child on the seeing stone. If he wanted help from the Jedi, he would reach out and call out to them. In the last episode, his call is finally answered. While the heroes are under assault by the droid Dark Troopers and about to lose, an X-Wing shows up.

When he enters the bridge he lowers his hood to reveal it's Luke Skywalker himself. He offers to take Grogu with him to teach him the ways of the Jedi. In a tearful good-bye, the child leaves with Luke to begin his Jedi training.

1 The Book Of Boba Fett

Boba Fett sat on his throne in Jabba's Palace in The Mandalorian

After the credits roll, fans might be reaching for their remotes. The ones who didn't saw a return to a familiar palace on Tatooine. After Jaba's death, it seems that Bib Fortuna has taken over the racket here. Suddenly guards come rolling down the steps after getting shot. Then out come Fennec Shand and her boss Boba Fett.

Bib Fortuna feigns empathy for Boba's fate at the end of Return Of The Jedi but is met with laser blasts. Boba hauls his carcass off the throne and takes his place as the new head of the underworld on Tatooine. What is revealed is that Boba Fett is getting his own show coming out in December 2021.
