WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for The Mandalorian Season 2, Episode 5, "Chapter 13: The Jedi," now streaming on Disney+.

Star Wars: The Mandalorian packed a ton of lore into "Chapter 13: The Jedi." The episode revealed Baby Yoda's real name -- Grogu -- and introduced Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano. It also opened the doors for a fan-favorite Jedi to return to the franchise in a major way.

Many are hoping for a return of other popular Star Wars Rebels or Clone Wars characters. However, hints from "Chapter 12" indicate the Dark Troopers are now official Star Wars canon -- so a Legends hero may soon join The Mandalorian. Kyle Katarn, the iconic protagonist of the Star Wars: Dark Forces video game, could make his return on the Disney+ series.

Kyle Katarn started out as a defected Imperialist who became a rebel mercenary in Star Wars: Dark Forces. The game follows Katarn on a mission to destroy the Dark Trooper program. These cyborg-like stormtroopers are being designed and built on a ship called the Arc Hammer. Katarn kills General Rom Mohc aboard his flagship and stops the Dark Trooper program from ever coming to fruition.

Katarn's later adventures help him discover his father was a Jedi and he too shares a connection to the Force. Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II follows Katarn as he hunts down seven dark Jedi who seek to rebuild the Empire after the events of Return of the Jedi. Katarn succeeds and saves the Valley of the Jedi.

However, Katarn does briefly succumb to the persuasion of the Darkside while investigating a Sith Temple on Dromund Kaas, but his Jedi Apprentice Mara Jade is able to bring him back to the light. After his video game appearances, Katarn becomes the Jedi Academy's most prominent battlemaster in the Legends books. He also serves as one of Luke Skywalker's trusted confidants and a respected Jedi Master.

At the end of Star Wars: The Mandalorian, "Chapter 13: The Jedi," Ahsoka Tano tells Din Djarin about a planet that contains a temple with a strong connection to the Force. While she refuses the train the child herself, Ahsoka wants Din to give Grogu a chance to find the Force for himself. She says if he sits on the seeing stone at the top of the mountain and reaches out through the Force, it's possible a Jedi can reach back and find him. There aren't many Jedi remaining, but this is Grogu's best chance of restoring his connection to the Force.

Katarn's connection to the Dark Trooper program is fueling speculation that he could be the Jedi that reaches out to Grogu. Viewers know Moff Gideon is in control of an entire unit of Dark Troopers, but it's unclear if they came from the same program Katarn destroyed in the video games or if they're an unrelated addition. Either way, Katarn's potential return seems logical.

Star Wars: The Mandalorian Season 2 has had plenty of fan-service, from showing Boba Fett's long lost armor to the live-action debuts of Bo Katan and Ahsoka Tano. It's clear the showrunners aren't afraid to draw big characters with huge lore implications into Din Djarin and Grogu's story. Seeing as how Kyle Katarn is clearly a fan-favorite character from the lore and now one of his most prominent plot drivers is officially part of Star Wars canon, Jon Favreau might just be priming fans for one of its franchise gaming icons to return to the fold in a major way.
