WARNING: The following contains spoilers for The Mandalorian, "Chapter 16: The Rescue," streaming now on Disney+.

The Season 2 finale of Disney+'s The Mandalorian includes a post-credits scene that teases a Boba Fett-centric Star Wars project for December 2021.

After the credits roll, fans are treated to a stinger that culminates with familiar Star Wars crawl text that reads, "The Book of Boba Fett." A second title card then reads, "Coming December 2021," which is also when Season 3 of The Mandalorian is slated to premiere.

As for the stinger itself, it begins on Tatooine, where we find a noticeably heftier Bib Fortuna sitting on the throne in the palace of Jabba the Hutt. Fennec Shand then enters, blaster blazing, as she clears a path for Boba, who kills Bib and throws his lifeless body from the throne. The scene culminates with Boba taking a seat on the throne with Fennec at his side.

It's been rumored for some time now that Boba Fett would receive a spinoff series serving as a prequel to his time on The Mandalorian, which began when he appeared in Season 1 as a mysterious figure approaching the seemingly lifeless body of Fennec Shand. He then returned in the final shot of the Season 2 premiere, watching Din Djarin from afar before making his first full appearance in "Chapter 14: The Tragedy," which saw him confront and later team up with Din, reclaiming his iconic armor in the process.

In "Chapter 16: The Rescue," Boba works with Din to recruit Koska Reeves and Bo-Katan Kryze for the mission to save Grogu from Moff Gideon. However, Boba himself doesn't take part in the mission beyond helping create a diversion to get Din, Bo-Katan, Koska, Fennec and Cara Dune aboard Gideon's ship. The last we see of him prior to the stinger is when Slave I makes the jump to hyperspace.

Despite the many Star Wars projects announced by Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy during the Disney Investor Day 2020 presentation, a Boba Fett project was conspicuous by its absence.

The Mandalorian and the Child continue their journey, facing enemies and rallying allies as they make their way through a dangerous galaxy in the tumultuous era after the collapse of the Galactic Empire.

Created by Jon Favreau, The Mandalorian stars Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano, Carl Weathers and Giancarlo Esposito. Season 2 is now streaming on Disney+.
