Star Wars, Please Don't Kill Off Lando Calrissian

Billy Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian Star Wars

The official news that Disney had purchased Lucasfilm was originally a relief for fans of Star Wars, who would finally get the chance to see a sequel they never, ever thought would get made: Star Wars: Episode VII. It took a while to get there, but the new film easily became one of the most highly-anticipated of all time, especially given that it was set to bring Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill back to the roles that made them living icons. The return of the actors was well advertised, and fans simply couldn't wait to see Han, Luke and Leia again, more than thirty years after the ending of Return of the Jedi.

However, as new characters embarked on their respective journeys, we forgot this might mean that some of the most beloved characters of the franchise would meet their ends in order to pass the torch and keep the story going. Sadly, we had to watch Han Solo get killed by his son Kylo Ren in The Force Awakens, and we saw Luke Skywalker push his powers so far that he eventually died of exhaustion in the closing moments of The Last Jedi. Plus, following the tragic passing of actress Carrie Fisher, we won't get to see Leia again in the as-yet untitled Episode IX.

Now, another fan-favorite actor from the original Star Wars trilogy is set to return in the next Star Wars film. It's recently been confirmed that Billy Dee Williams will once again bring the suave Lando Calrissian to life on the big screen, to the delight of fans everywhere. But here's the thing, Star Wars (yes, we're talking to you directly): don't you dare kill Lando Calrissian. We need him alive, we need him cool, but most of all, we need him happy.

As fans of Star Wars, we've been through a lot in the past few years. We had to watch Han Solo die at the hands of a new villain, we had to accept that Luke Skywalker did not grow old to become the hero we all wanted him to be and we came to the brutal realization that hermit Luke sacrificed himself in order to give hope to the Rebellion once again. Now, as we head into the third chapter of this new trilogy, the core characters of the original films will all be gone. Thankfully, we still have Chewie around, and now Lando Calrissian will be back to lend a helping hand to Rey, Finn, Poe and the rest of the Rebels.
